මම මේක ලිවුවේ වැට නැති කටේ මද්දු සහෝදරයගෙ Facebook තහනම,අද හෙටම?? ලිපියට කමෙන්ට් එකක් හැටියට.දිග වැඩි වෙලා කමෙන්ට් එක පෝස්ට් කරගන්න බැරි වුනා :( .ඒක නිසා හිතුවා මෙතනවත් දානවා කියලා.

හොඳ ලිපියක්.ලංකාවේ මිනිස්සුන්ගේ (බහුතරයකගේ) හැටි හොඳට වටහාගෙන ලියලා තියනවා.

ඇත්ත.අපි කාර් එකක් එලවන්නෙ තනියම යම් තත්වයකට ආවට පස්සෙනෙ.ඒත් පොඩි පොඩි මිස්ටේක් මුලදි වෙනවා.මේ හැමදේටමත් ඒක ඇත්ත.පොඩි හරි පූර්ව සොයා බැලීමක් කරලා ආවනම් මෙච්චර ප්‍රශ්න නොඑන්න පුළුවං.වාහනේ අතට ගන්නකොටම අපිට තේරෙනවනේ මේක ටිකක් රිස්කි.හරියට නොකළොත් පදිකයො මැරෙන්න පුළුවං, අපි මැරෙන්න පුළුවං, නැත්තං වෙන වාහනවල එන අය මැරෙන්න හරි තුවාල වෙන්න හරි පුළුවං කියලා.ඒත් ලංකාවෙ ගොඩ දෙනෙක්ට අන්තර්ජාලය සම්බන්ධව මෙහෙම දේවල් පේන්නෙ නෑ.සමහරු හිතනවා මේක මේ සුරබිදෙන වගේ එකක්, ඒකෙ තියන ඔක්කොම ඇත්ත.නියමයි.හරි ෂෝක් කියලා.යන්තම් අතපත ගාපු සමහරු නිකං ඒ බව අඟවන්නෙ හරියට සක්‍රයා කියපු දෙයක් අනික් අයට කියනවා වගේ.කොටිංම ලංකාවේ කම්පියුටර් ඩිප්ලෝමා විකුනන කඩ කාරයෝ පෝස්ටර් වල ගහන්නේ අවසානයේ ඉන්ටර්නෙට් ඊ මේල් නොමිලේ උගන්වනු ලැබේ කියලා.හරියට නිකං මාර ලක්ෂරියක් වගේ.

මමත් මූණු පොතෙං ඉවත් වෙලා සෑහෙන කල්.ඒත් සබ්ජෙක්ට් එක ගැන සෑහෙන අප් ටු ඩේට් ඉන්න ලැබුනා. ඒකෙ ඔය ජීවිතේ අනික් කොයි දේකත් වගේ හොඳ නරක දෙකම තියනවා.

ලංකාවට රේඩියෝ එක ආවා.සමහරු හිතුවා ඒක මාර වැඩක් කියලා.උජාරුවට කන පැළෙන්න අනිත් මිනිස්සුන්ට කරදර වෙන විදියට රේඩියෝ දාන පිරිසක් බිහි වුනා.ඊට පස්සෙ ටී වී ආවා.සුපුරුදු පරිදි එක් බුද්ධිමත් වග පෙන්වන්න කැමති පිරිසක් එක් අන්තයකට ගිහිං වැරදිම කිවුවා.තව පිරිසක් හොඳම කිවුවා.තෝරලා බේරලා නියම ස්වභාවය කියපු අයත් හිටියා(මට හිතෙන්නෙ ඒ අය තමා සැබෑ බුද්ධිමත්තු).ඒකටත් පිරිසක් ඇබ්බැහි වුනා.කෝපි කඩේ වෙලාවට බණට හාමුදුරුවෙක් වඩම්ම ගන්න බැරි කාලයක් උදා වුනා.ලන්කාවේ සංඝාධිකරණ එහෙම මොකට තියනවද මන්දා.ඊට පස්සෙ මොබයිල් ෆෝන් ආවා.හොර මැර කම් වැඩි වෙයි කිවුවා.තව 1000ක් ජාති කිවුවා.සමහරුන්ට ෆෝන් කතා කරන්න භාවිතා කරන උපකරණයක් නෙවේ සෝභනයක් වුනා.අපේ කට්ටිය කොහොමත් අළුත් දෙයක් කලාතුරකිං සොයා ගත්තට අනුන් හදපුවා කරගහගෙන නයා යවන්න දස්සයිනෙ :) .

ඊට පස්සෙ කම්පියුටර් ආවා.ඉන්ටර්නෙට් ආවා.මේ කොයි දේකත් හොඳ දේවල් අනන්තවත් තියනවා.නරක දේවලුත් එහෙමමයි.ඒකට ඒ තාක්ෂණේට පළිද?රේඩියෝ එක, ටී වී එක, මොබයිල් ෆෝන් එක, කම්පියුටරේ , මේ කෝකත් කන්නෙ මිනිස්සු ගොං පාට් දන්න ගිහිල්ලා.ඒ දේවල් වල තරම දැනගෙන අපි ඒවට වහල් නොවී හිටියනං හරි.පොඩි පොඩි දෝෂ ඉතිං අපි කා අතිනුත් වෙනවනේ :) .

මටනං හිතෙන්නෙ අපි බුද්ධිමත්ව නොබලා ඔහේ එක් එක් තාක්ෂණයන්ට නොදැනුවත්වම වහල් වීම තමා මේකට හේතුව. මම මේ මෑතක ඉඳලා ෆේස් බුක් එකේ නෝටිස් කරනවා මිනිස්සු පුදුම විදියට පම්පෝරි ගහන්නයි(පොඩි පොඩි නයි අස්සේ මුචලින්දටත් වඩා පත නාග රාජයෝ ඉන්නවා :) ) තම තමන්ට ප්‍රතිරූප මවා ගන්නයි මේක යොදා ගන්න හදනවා.සමහර වෙලාවට හිරිකිතයි.මගේ යාළුවෝ සෙට් එකක් ෆේස් බුක් එකේ දාන්න ෆොටෝ ගන්නම කියලා රට ගියා.ඇයි හැමෝම එක්කො හිමේ ඉන්න පින්තූර දාලා, නැත්තං කාන්තාරෙක ඒවා දාලා.පුදුම පිස්සුවක් මේක.රටකට හරි දුර බැහැරකට හරි ගිය ගමං ගෙදර මිනිස්සුන්ට කියන්නත් කලින් ෆේස් බුක් එකේ ස්ටේටස් අප්ඩේට් කරලා.ඒ දාන ඒවට විකාර කමෙන්ට් දාලා පිස්සු කතා කියන්නත් තවත් කට්ටියක් දත මැදගෙන ඉන්නවා.කමක් නෑ. කොයි දේත් පොඩ්ඩක් සීමාවක් ඇතුව අප්පිරිය නොවෙන්න තිබ්බනං.කෑම කාලා සබං දාලා අත හෝදන්න බැරිවුනා කියලත් ෆේස් බුක් එකේ දාන ජොකියෝ දැං වැහි වැහැලා :) .

ගෑනු හනීමූන් ගිය පින්තූරත් දානවා.මිනිස්සු ලෝකෙ ඉන්න ඔක්කොම ගෑනුංව ඇඩ් කරගෙන පිතූර පීරනවා අරහෙං පේනවද මෙහෙං පේනවද බලන්න.මේ මෙලෝ සංසාරයක් තේරෙන්නෙ නැති බාල මහළු තව පිරිසක් තමංගේ ෆේස් බුක් එකවුන්ට් වෙන පිරිසකට කියලා මේන්ටේන් කරෝනවා.මේක නිකං ෆේස්බුක් නැතිවුනොත් ඔක්සිජන් නැතිවෙයි වගේ වෙලා.අපේ ඔෆිස් එකේ ෆේස් බුක් ප්‍රොක්සියෙං බ්ලොක් කරලා තියෙන්නෙ.මෙන්න යකෝ මුං ඒ ගමන එච් එස් පී ඒ ගහලා ෆේස් බුක් යනවා.පුදුම පිස්සුවක්.අබිං කාලා වගේ.ඒ ගමන යූ එස් බීත් බ්ලොක් කලා.මුංගෙ ගොං පාට් නිසා දැං වැඩක් කරගන්නත් නෑ.

මේ තාක්ෂණේට වහල් වෙලා අපිට 30 වෙනකොටම කොලස්ට්‍රෝල්, ෂුගර්, ප්‍රෙෂර්.අපිට නොපෙනුනාට සැඟවුන මාරයා මේ තාක්ෂණේ තමා.අපිට සෙල්ලං කරන්න වෙලා නෑ, ගෙදර ඇවිත් විවේක අරං කතා කරලා ස්ට්‍රෙස් අඩු කර ගන්න වෙලා නෑ,වයිෆ් එක්ක සාප්පු යන්න, ළමයින්ගෙ ඉස්කෝලෙට ගොඩ වැදිලා එන්න වෙලා නෑ.මොනාටද මෙච්චර හම්බ කරලා.එහෙමද සුද්දො?සමර් කිවුවම මාස 3ක් ඉතර යනකං එකෙක් නෑ හොයා ගන්න.උන්ගෙ බහුතරයක් හොඳ බැලන්ස්.සම්පත් කලමණාකරණය කරගන්න බැරුව උදේ ඉදං රෑ වෙනකං රස්සාවක හරි ඉගන ගන්න තැනක හරි ජීවිතේ කම්බස් කරගන්න එක ආසියාවේ ගොං හැත්තට හරි ලොකුයි.

අපිට පටිච්ච සමුප්පාදෙ ඉගැන්නුවේ හතරෙදි.කෝ ඒවා?නිකං දන්නාව දන්නවා කියන්න ඉගනගත්ත මිසක් අපි ඒවා ඇප්ලයි කරන්නෙ නෑ.අපි කට්ටියවත් එකතු වෙලා අපේ ඊළඟ පරම්පරාවටවත් කියලා දෙන්න උත්සාහ කරමුද උගත්කමයි ඥානවන්තකමයි 2ක්, ඥානවන්ත වෙන්න උත්සාහ කරමු කියලා?මේ ෆේස්බුක් හුට පටේ නිකං ප්ලාස්ටරයක් විතරයි.අපි ගොඩ එනකං ඔය වගේ තව 1000ක් යක්කු වෙන වෙන ස්වරූප වලිං එයි.උන්ට ඔය වගේ පය බරවායට පිටිකර බේත් බඳින වෙද්දුත් ඕන හැටි ඉඳියි.ඒත් එහෙම වැඩක් නෑනෙ.කල් පවතින විසඳුමකට අපි හැමෝම පුළු පුළුවං විදියට දායක වෙමු.ඒකට හොඳම දේ තමා අපි දන්න කියන ඒවා බෙදා හදා ගන්න එක.

මේ ටික ගොඩ දවසක ඉඳං මගේ හිතේ හිර වෙලා තිබ්බා.අමනාප නෑනෙ? වැදගත් මාතෘකාවක් ගැන කතා කරලා තිබුනා කියලා හිතුන නිසයි ලිවුවේ :) .

ඔවුන් තරු බවට පත් වූයේ කෙසේද?

ඔවුන්ගේ සිනමාව කෝටි ප්‍රකෝටි ගණන් ධනය ගැවසෙන ස්ථානයක් වූයේ කෙසේද?

කොටින්ම ඔවුන්ගේ චිත්‍රපටි කර්මාන්තය ඔවුන් කියන පරිදි දියුණු වූයේ කෙසේද?

ඒ ඔවුන්ගේ චිත්‍රපටි නරඹන අතලොස්සක් වූ (මට හිතෙන විදියට ඒ ප්‍රතිශතය සියට 0.01ටත් වඩා අඩු විය යුතුය) කෝටි පතියන් නිසාද?

නැත.

පුදුම ඛේදයකි!

මටනම් හිතෙන විදියට මේක රසික ජනතාව වෙනුවෙන් තියන එකක් නෙමෙයි.එකේක බල පුළුවන් කාරයන්ගේ මහන්තත්තකම් ලෝකෙට ප්‍රදර්ශනය කරන්න දාගත්තු විකාරයක්. දෙමළ ජනතාවගේ කතාවක් ඇද බාලා මනී රත්නම් කිවුවලු ලංකාවට යන එක වර්ජනය කරන්න ඕනෙ කියලා.අනේ හැබෑට තමන්ගේ බඩ වඩා ගන්න උදවු කරන අහින්සක ප්‍රේක්ෂක ජනතාව වෙනුවෙන් කතා නොකර මේ මිනිස්සු වෙන වෙන මාර්කට් කරන්න පුළුවන් දේවල් දඩ මීමා කරගෙන ප්‍රතිරූප ගොඩනගා ගන්න දඟලන හැටි.ඊට වඩා හොඳ නැද්ද තමන්ගේ රසිකයො වෙනුවෙන් කතා කළා නම්.

තමන්ට කවදාවත් කරගන්න බැරි තරම් ලොකු දේවල් කරන අනුන්ගේ පුරාජේරුවත් තමන්ගේ වගේ කීමෙන් ගොඩාක් මිනිස්සු රස විඳින වග පේනවා.තමන්ට බැරි නිසා ඒකත් කමක් නෑ කියමුකො.ඒත් අර තක්කඩියො ටික බොර දියේ මාළු බානවා වගේ මේ අහින්සක මිනිස්සුන්වම මුලාවෙ දාලා උන්ව හූරන් කාලා වෙන කාටවත් ආවඩන කොට මගේ කට නිකං කසනවා වගේ වුනා.හිතට ආපු වේගය කොහෙට හරි මුදා හරින්නයි මට ඕනෑ වුනේ.දැන් නම් ටිකක් හිතට හොඳයි වගේ.

හැමදාමත් ඉතින් නැති බැරි එකාටම තමා කෙළවෙන්නේ.සල්ලි තියන මිනිස්සුන්ට ආගම ප්‍රශ්නෙකුත් නෑ, ජාතිය ප්‍රශ්නෙකුත් නෑ, කුලේ ප්‍රශ්නෙකුත් නෑ.සල්ලි නැති මිනිස්සුන්ට තමා ඔක්කොම ගැටි.ඒ වුනාට මේ වගේ වැඩ වලට සම්බන්ධ ගොඩාක් අය අවිහින්සාවාදී, ධානපති, ලෝ ප්‍රකට සමාජ සේවකයෝ.එක අතකට මේ වගේ තක්කඩි ක්‍රම වලින් හොයන සල්ලි වලින් කරන සමාජ සේවෙ මොකටද?අනම් මනම් බොරු සේවෙ නැතුව තමන් සම්බන්ධ වෙලා ඉන්න කලාව බහුතරයගේ හිත සුව පිණිස කරලා කෝටිපතියෝ වුනා නම් අවුලක් නෑනේ.ඔය එහෙම මිනිස්සුත් ඉන්නෙ.

ඉඳ හිට වැළඳෙන ලෙඩ රෝග පවුලේ දොස්තර මහත්තයාගේ බේත් වලට හොඳ නොවූ විට විශේෂඥ දොස්තර මහත්තයෙක් සොයා යාම අපි බොහෝ දෙනෙක් අනුගමනය කරන පිළිවෙතක් බවට පත්ව ඇති වග පුද්ගලික ඉස්පිරිතාල වල චැනල් පෝළිමෙන් සිතාගත හැක. එහෙත් බොහෝ අවස්ථා වලදී මහත් බලාපොරොත්තු පොදි බැඳගෙන විශේෂඥ දොස්තර මහත්තයා හමුවට යන අපට යළි පැමිණීමට සිදු වන්නේ හිතේ අමාරුවකිනි. එක්කෝ ඔහු හෝ ඇය ලෙඩාට නිසි අවධානයක් යොමු නොකරයි. එක්කෝ කිසිත් පරීක්ෂා නොකර උඩින් පල්ලෙන් බලා දඩිබිඩියේ බේත් නියම කරයි. එක්කෝ බැන වදියි. එක්කෝ නොරුස්සනා ස්වරූපයක් මවා පායි. නැතහොත් ලෙඩාට සවන් නොදේ.කළ යුතු පරීක්ෂණ, හැසිරිය යුතු ආකාරය හෝ බෙහෙත් පිළිබඳ කිසිදු පැහැදිළි කිරීමක් නොකරයි.මිල ගනන් අඩු හොඳ බේත් වර්ග තිබියදී ලෙඩා මෝඩයෙකියි සිතාගෙන අධික මිල ගණන් වල බෙහෙත් තුන්ඩු ලියා දේ(බෙහෙත් තුණ්ඩුව රාජ්‍ය ඖෂධ නීතිගත සංස්ථාවට දුන් විට තත්වය බලාගත හැක).

කොස් ලී, තේක්ක ලී, පොල් ලී වලින් වැඩ කරන හැටි දන්නේ වඩු බාස් වුනාට ඒ ඒ ලී යොදා ගන්නේ කුමන මෝස්තරයට කුමක් සඳහාද යන්න නිවෙස් හිමියා දනියි. මේ සරළ සිද්ධාන්තය ඇතැම් දොස්තර මහත්තුරුන්ට නොතේරෙන හැඩය.ඔවුන් සිතන්නේ ලෙඩේ ගැනත් බෙහෙත් ගැනත් ලෙඩා සහ පවුලේ අය දැනගැනීම අනවශ්‍ය බවය. නැතහොත් ඒවා දොස්තරලා නොවන අය නොදන්නා බවය.

එහෙත් මේ සියළු ඍනාත්මක සිතුවිලි සුණු විසුණු කරමින් වෛද්‍ය වෘත්තියත් මිනිස් කමත් ආලෝකමත් කරන වචනයේ පරිසමාප්ත අර්ථයෙන්ම සැබෑ දොස්තර මහත්තයෙක් හමුවීමේ භාග්‍ය මීට සතියකට පෙර අපට හිමි විය.

මගේ බිරිඳගේ බඩේ ලෙඩක් සඳහා අපි දොස්තර මහත්තයෙක් සොයා බැලුවෙමු.නම අසා හුරු දොස්තර මහත්තයෙක් නොසිටි නිසා අපි හොඳ යයි අනුමාන කර ඇපොයින්මන්ට් එකක් දැමීමු.නියමිත දිනයේ නියමිත වේලාවට රෝහලට ගොස් අපේ වාරය පැමිණෙන තුරු රැඳී සිටියෙමු.දුටුවන් ප්‍රිය උපදවන තලතුනා මහාචාර්යය දොස්තර මහතා මදහසක් පාමින් චැනල් කාමරයට ඇතුළු විය.ඔහු එක් රෝගියකු සඳහා විනාඩි 20ක් 25ක් ගත කළේය.

බොහෝ රෑ වීමට ප්‍රථම ගෙදර යාමට තිබුනා නම් හොඳ යයි සිතමින් අපි අපේ වාරය එන තෙක් රැඳී සිටියෙමු.දැන් අපේ වාරයයි.චැනල් කාමරයට පිවිසුනු අපට ඔහු අදාල ස්ථානයන්හි අසුන් ගන්නට සැලසීය.ඉන්පසු හොඳ අවධානයෙන් රෝග ලක්ෂණ විමසීය.

ඇතැම් තැන්හි නිවැරදි තොරතුරු කීමට පැකිලෙන විට සුදුසු පරිදි උපහාසාත්මකව යමක් කියමින් ඔහු ඒවා දැනගන්නට සමත් විය.දැන් ඉන්නා බොහෝ දොස්තර මුදලාලිලා මුලින්ම අහන්නේ ක්ලේම් කරනවාද?රස්සාව කරන්නේ කොහේද කියාය.ලෙඩේ අහන්නේ ඊට පසුය.අපේ තාත්තා නම් එවිට පිළිතුරු දෙන්නේ මම තැපැල් දෙපාර්තමේන්තුවේ වැඩ කර දැන් පෙන්ෂන් කියාය.එවිට දොස්තර මහත්තයා ගාන සාධාරණ බේත් ලියයි.නැත්තම් වෙන්නේ දොස්තර මහත්තයාට සන්තෝසම් දෙන බෙහෙත් ඒජන්සි කාරයා පෝසත් කිරීමට අපට සිදුවීමය.

කෙසේ වෙතත් මේ දොස්තර මහත්තයා එසේ කළේ නැත.රිපෝර්ට් වගයක් ගතයුතු බවත් අපට ඒවා ක්ලේම් කිරීමට හැකිදැයි පමණක් ඔහු ඇසීය.ඔහු එය ඇසූයේ අප කෙරේ අව්‍යාජ අනුකම්පාවෙන්ම වගෙ ඔහුගේ ඉරියවු වලින් මොනවට දිස් විය.රිපෝර්ට් කීපයක් ගත යුතු බවත් ඒවා ඔක්කොම එකපාර නොගෙන එක් එක් පරීක්ෂණ වල ප්‍රතිඵල අනුව ගමු යයි ඔහු යෝජනා කළේය.රිපෝර්ට් නොමැතිව නිශ්චිතව කිව නොහැකි වුවත් ඔහු රෝග නිධානය අනුමානයෙන් පවසා එය පහදා දීමටද කාරුණික විය.පසුව රිපෝර්ට් ලද පසු ඔහුගේ අනුමානය නිවැරදි වග අපට ඒත්තු ගියේය.

අප දෙදෙනා දෙස බැලූ විට අප මෑතකදී විවාහ වූ වග තේරුම් ගැනීමට ඔහුට අපහසු නොවීය.බඩේ ලෙඩේ ආහාර රටාව හා සම්බන්ධ වග පෙනුනු නිසා ඔහු අපට වැදගත් ඔවදනක් ඔහුගේ කුඩා කාලයේ සිදුවීම පෙළක් සමග කියාදුන්නේය.තමන් අවුරුදු නවයේදී පාන්දර 5.30 කෝච්චියෙන් ගල්කිස්සට පාසල් එන විට පාන්දර 5ට පමණ සිය මව සොයුරු සොයුරියන් සමග එක මේසයක වාඩි වී ආහාර ගත් අයුරු ඔහු සිහි කළේය.පොඩි පොඩි හොඳ පුරුදු අම්මා ප්‍රැක්ටිකලි කියාදුන් හැටි දශක 5කට පමණ පසු ඔහු අගය කළේය.වෙලාවට කන්න යයිද කන කොට එකට හිඳ කෑම ගන්න යයිද ඔහු පැවසූයේ ‘eat together stick together’යයි කියමිනි.

හොඳම වැඩේ නම් බුදු දොස්තර මහත්තයා කතෝලික බැතිමතෙකු වීමයි.අප දෙදෙනා බෞද්ධ යයි ඔහු දැනගත්තේ කෙසේදැයි මම නොදනිමි. ‘pray together stick together’යන කියමන ඔහු අපට ගැළපෙන පරිදි වෙනස් කර දුන්නේය.පොඩි කාලෙ එකට හිටපු අපේ පවුලේ අය තාමත් එකතු යයි ඔහු සිනා මුසු මුහුණින් පැවසීය.කනකොට ටී වී නොබලා එකට වාඩි වෙලා කන්න පුළුවන්න් නම් කොච්චර හොඳ දැයි ඔහු ඇසීය.අපි ටී වී බලන්නේ ඉතා අඩුවෙන් වග ඔහුට කීවෙමු.ඔහු එය අගය කළේය.

වෛද්‍ය වෘත්තියේ යෙදෙමින් රොගීන්ට වෙද හෙද කම් කරන අතරම මහාචාර්ය වරයකු ලෙස වෛද්‍ය විද්‍යාලයේ දූ දරුවන්ගේ නැණස පෑදීමේ ඔහු යෙදී සිටියි.ඊට අමතරව නියම වැඩිහිටි පුරවැසියෙක් ලෙස තමන්ට හැකි පරිදි යහ පුරුදු මතු පරපුරට කියාදීමටත් ඔහු විනාඩියක් දෙකක් මිඩංගු කරන වග අපට හොඳින්ම පෙනුනි.

එදා අපි චැනල් කාමරෙන් එළියට ආවේ බේත් නැතුවම ලෙඩේ බාගයක් හොඳ වෙලා.ඊට පසු දෙවතාවකදීත් අපි දොස්තර මහත්තයාගෙන් බෙහෙත් ගන්න ගියා.සුපුරුදු පරිදිම කාරුණිකව ක්‍රියා කරපු එතුමා රෝග ලක්ෂණ, එහි ස්වභාවය, ගත යුතු ක්‍රියාමාර්ග කොල වල ඇඳලා පැහැදිලි කරලා දෙන්න තරම් කාරුණික වුනා.සල්ලි පස්සෙම එළවන අකාරුණික දොස්තර මුදලාලිලාට මේ වචනයේ පරිසමාප්ත අර්ථයෙන්ම මහා ආචාර්ය දොස්තර මහත්තයා හොඳ ආදර්ශයක්.

මේ කතාව හිතට ආවේ එක පවුලක් නිසා නම් නෙවෙයි.මට පෙනුනු විධියට පවුල් 3ක් ඉන්න ඕනෙ.මේක ලියන්න ඕන කියල හිතිලා ගොඩක් කල් වුනාට ඒක ඉක්මන් වුනේ පසු ගිය සතියේ වෙච්ච සිදුවීමකින්.

අසනීපයකට බෙහෙත් ගන්න පිටකෝට්ටේ දොස්තර මහත්මයෙක් ළඟට ගිය මමත් බිරිඳත් අපේ වාරය එන තුරු ඉඳගෙන හිටියා.ටික වෙලාවකින් ආපු තරුණ අම්මා කෙනෙකුයි පොඩි පුතෙකුයි අපිට ආසන 3ක් පමණ එහායින් ඉඳගත්තා.පොඩි පුතා නම් ටිකක් දඟ වග පෙනුනා.අම්මා ඒ කිසිදෙයක් වළක්වන්නට වත් තරවටු කරන්නටවත් කිසිම විටක පෙළඹුනේ නෑ.ඇගේ දිහා බැලුවහම ඇය එතරම් ධන ධාන්‍යයෙන් ආඪ්‍ය නොවන වග පෙනුනා.ඒත් සංතුට්ටී පරමං ධනං කියනවනේ.එහෙම බැලුවාම නම් ඒ අම්මයි පුතයි බොහොම ධනවත් වග එතන හිටපු හැමෝටම පෙනුනා.කඩිය වගේ එහෙ මෙහෙ දුවන පුතා ටික වේලාවකින් හැමෝගෙම අවධානය දිනා ගත්තා.මහන්සි වෙච්ච පුංචි බබාට දැන් වයස අවුරුදු 1යි මාස 4යි කියලත් එයාගෙ අම්මා අවට හිටපු අයට කිව්වා.බබා ඇවිත් තියෙන්නේ එක පාරක් බේත් අරන් හොඳ නොවුනු සෙමට ආයිත් බේත් ගන්න.බබා දැන් ජෝජො ඉල්ලනවා.හරි වැඩේ.අම්මට ජෝජො බෝතලේ ගේන්න අමතක වෙලා.බබාවත් වඩෝගත්ත අම්මා ටික වෙලාවක් අතුරුදන් වුනා.විනාඩි 5කට විතර පස්සෙ බබා පොඩි ක්‍රීම් සෝඩා බෝතලේකුත් එක්ක ආවා.ඊට පස්සේ බබාගෙ හුරතල් එතන හිටපු හැමෝම සිනා මුසු මූණින් බලා හිටියා.එක විදියකට එක තැනක නොඉන්න බබා එක්ක අම්මත් බොහොම කැමැත්තෙන් එහෙ මෙහෙ දිව්වේ හරියට මේ ඊයේ හම්බුන බබෙක් ආසාවෙන් බලාගන්නවා වගේ.බහ තෝරන වයසේ හිටපු බබාගේ කල්පනාව බොහොම තියුණු වග එයා කරපු කියපු දේ වලින් පෙනුනා.ටික වෙලාවකින් ටිකක් ලොකු අක්කෙකුයි, ඉපදිලා මාසයක් විතර වෙන චූටි මල්ලියෙකුයිත් ඒගොල්ලන්ගේ අම්මලා එක්ක ආවා.බබා දුවලා ගිහින් එයාගේ බීම බෝතලේ ඒගොල්ලන්ටත් දුන්නා.

මම රැකියාවට යන්නේ කොම්පඤ්ඤවීදියේ මුඩුක්කු පේළියක් මැදින්.සමහර ගෙවල් වල අම්මලා බහ තෝරන ළමයින්ට කතා කරන්නේ අසභ්‍ය වචන වලින්.එහෙම ඇහෙන කොට ඇත්තටම කණගාටු හිතෙනවා.මේ අම්මා ඕන නම් ඊට වඩා ටිකක් හොඳ තැනක ජීවත් වෙනවා ඇති.ඇය එතරම් උගත් වගක් වත් රැකියාවක යෙදෙන බවක් වත් පෙනුනෙත් නෑ.ඒත් අර පුංචි ළමයා කිසිම නරක වචනයක් වත් නරක හැසිරීමක් වත් පෙන්නුවෙ නෑ.හැදෙන ගහ දෙපෙත්තෙන් දැනේ වගේ ඒ පොඩි බබාව හොඳට හදන බව එතන හිටපු ඔක්කොටම පෙනුනා.තරුණ වැඩිහිටි අයට බබා කතා කළේ මාමා කියලා.අක්කා, තාත්තා,කඩේ, ජෝජො, කුක්කූ කියන්නත් බබා දැනගෙන හිටියා.බබා හැමතැනම දිවුවත් අම්මා නෙමෙයි සැර කළේ.මේ දර්ශනේ වීඩියෝ කරළා කවදා හරි බබා තරුණයෙක් වෙච්ච දවසකදී ලැබෙන්න සැලැස්සුවානම් එයාට තේරෙයි අම්මා කොච්චර හොඳද කියලා.අගනා මැණික් ඉතිං කළුගල් අතරෙ වුනත් හැදෙනවානෙ.

මීට මාස 3කට හෝ 4කට කලින් බොරැල්ලෙන් බස් එකට නැග්ගා ඉස්කෝලේ 3නේ 4රේ වගේ ඉන්න දුවෙකුයි එයාගෙ තාත්තයි.දුවව ඉස්කෝලේ ඇරලවන්නේ තාත්තා.ඒත් ඒ තාත්තගේ එක් විශේෂයක් තිබුණා.තාත්තට තිබුනෙ එක පාදයයි.දුවව බස් එකට නග්ගවලා මේ තාත්තත් අමාරුවෙන් කිහිලි කරු ආධාරයෙන් බස් එකට ගොඩ වෙනවා.දුවටත් ඔනෙ නම් තනියම ඉස්කෝලේ යන්න පුළුවන් වග පෙනුනත් තාත්තා නිතරම ඇය කැටුව යන වග පෙනුනේ මේ ළඟදිත් දෙන්නව බස් එකේදි දුටුව නිසයි.මේ වගේ ආබාධයකුත් එක්ක ඕනෑ හැටි මේ වැඩෙන් කර අරින්නට පුළුවන් තාත්තා එහෙම කරන්නේ නැති වග පෙනෙනට තිබුණා.අනං මනං හේතු කියලා වැඩ වලින් අමාරුයි කියලා කට්ටි පනින කාටත් මේ තාත්තා හොඳ ආදර්ශයක්.

සමහර ළමයින් නම් ඉතින් හොඳ තත්වෙකට ආවම දෙමවුපියන්ව අත අරිනවා.ඒත් තමනුත් දරුවනුත් මොන තත්වේ හිටියත් දෙමවුපියන් දරුවන් කීයටවත් අත අරින්නේ නෑ.අපේ අම්මලා තාතලාත් ඉතිං එහෙමනේ.

මට මතක විධියට මේ සිද්ධිය නම් වුනේ මීට අවුරුදු එකහමාරකට හරි දෙකකට විතර හරි ඉහතදී.ඒ දිනවල මමත් මගේ බිරිඳත් විවාහ වීමට සූදානමින් සිටි කාලෙ.අපි ගියා දතක එක්ස් රේ එකක් ගන්න බත්තරමුල්ලේ පිහිටි දන්ත ශල්‍යාගාරයකට.එතනට ඇවිත් හිටියා කැපී පෙනෙන පෞරුෂයකින් යුතු පුද්ගලයෙක්.බැලූ බැල්මට ඔහුව දිස්වුනේ යටත්විජිත සමයේ ආඩම්බරකාර වතු සුපිරින්ටන්ඩන් කෙනෙක් වගේ.ඔහු වෛද්‍යවරයාවත් දන්නා වග පෙනුනා.දෙදෙනාගේ කතා බහ කෙරුනෙත් ඉංග්‍රීසියෙන්.හුගේ බිරිඳත් ඔහු සමග පැමිණ සිටියා.ඇයත් ඉහළ පන්තියක වග බලන අයට තේරුම් ගියා.අතින් අල්ලාගෙන ඔහුත් බිරිඳත් ආඩම්බරයෙන් එහා මෙහා කැටුව ගියේ සරමක් සහ කමිසයකින් සැරසී උරහිසට ලේන්සුවක් දැමූ පාවහන් නොපළඳින වයස්ගත පුද්ගලයෙක්.සීයා ඈත දුර බැහැරක වග කාටත් තේරුනා.ඔවුන් තිදෙනා මද වේලාවක් මා අසළ රැඳී සිටියා.ඔවුන්ගේ කතා බහේ අතරින් පතර කොටස් මටත් ඇහුනා.

පුතේ මම දොස්තර මහත්තයට මෙහෙම කියන්නද?,පුතේ මම දොස්තර මහත්තයට මෙහෙම කිවුවා,පුතේ අරම කරන්නද? මෙහෙම කරන්නද?පුතේ දොස්තර මහත්තයා මොකද කිව්වෙ? සීයට ප්‍රශ්න වැලයි.කොටින්ම සීයා හුස්ම ගත්තෙත් පුතාගෙන් අහලා. මේවට අර පුද්ගලයත් දොස්තර මහත්තයා මෙහෙම කිවුවා තාත්තේ,අරහොම කිවුවා තාත්තේ කියමින් පිළිතුරු දෙනවා.

දෙදෙනාගේ කතාවෙන් තේරුණේ ඒ දෙන්නා තාත්තයි පුතයි වග.සීයා පුතාගේ අත අල්ලාගෙන එහා මෙහා ගියේ මේ මගේ පුතා කියන්නාක් මෙන් බොහොම සන්තෝසෙන්. ගම් වලින් ඇවිල්ලා ගොඩ ගිය බොහෝ දෙනෙක් වගේ මේ පුතත් ඔහුගේ බිරිඳත් පිරිහිලා හිටියෙ නෑ.තමන්ගේ ගමේ තාත්තවත් ඔවුන් බොහොම සන්තෝසෙන් ආඩම්බරෙන් නගරබද පැළැන්තිය හැසිරෙන තැනක එහා මෙහා එක්කන් ගියා.ඒ තාත්තා අනිවාර්‍රයෙන්ම ඒ පුතා පොඩි කාලෙදි හොඳින් බලා ගන්න ඇති.ඒකෙ ප්‍රතිඵල ඉතින් තියනවනේ.

පෞද්ගලික වෛද්‍ය විද්‍යාල කාලයෙන් කාලයට ලංකාවේ උණුසුම ඉහළ නංවන මාතෘකාවකි.ඕනෑම දෙයක් කිරීමේදී ඒ හා බැඳී පවතින ගුණ අගුණ පවතියි. පුද්ගලික වෛද්‍ය විද්‍යාල පිළිබඳවද මෙම කරුණ සත්‍ය වේ.එහෙත් බොහෝවිට ප්‍රචාරණය පහසු වන බිම් මට්ටමේ පුද්ගලයන් සිටිනුයේ විරුද්ධ පැත්තේ නිසා බොහෝවිට සාමාන්‍ය ජනතාවට දැනගැනීමට ලැබෙන්නේ එහි නුගුණම පමණකි.

'යේ ධම්මා හේතුප්පබවා'

ගොවිතැන් බත් කළ අය රැකියාව අනුව ගොයිගම වූහ, හකුරු සෑදූ අය හකුරු වූහ, බෙර ගැසූ අය බෙරවා වූහ. එනම් රැකියා ස්වභාවය අනුව ඔවුහු බෙදුනහ. ක්‍රමයෙන් කල් ගතවත්ම ඔවුහු එම බෙදීම, එනම් කුල අනුව වරප්‍රසාද භුක්ති විඳීමටත් ඇතැම් අන් පාර්ශවයන්ගේ වරප්‍රසාද සීමා කිරීමටත් පටන්ගත්හ. ක්‍රමානුකූලව එම ක්‍රමය සමාජය වෙලාගත් පිලිලයක් බවට පත් විය.එය මිනිස් සමාජයම පෙළන සාධකයක් බවට පත් විය. ඉන්දියාවේ නම් තත්වය තාමත් එසේමය.ඇතැම් පහත් යැයි සැළකෙන කුල වල අයට පිරිසිඳු වතුර පොදක් වත් නෑමට තහනම් ය.රැකියා අනුව බෙදීමත් තමන් කරන දේ කිරීමට තවත් පිරිසකට නොහැකියයි පූර්ව නිගමන වලට එලඹි, උගත් එහෙත් බුද්ධිමත් නොවූ මිනිස්කමට නිගා ගෙනදෙන පිරිසක් විසින් සමාජ ක්‍රමය පවත්වාගෙන යාමත් නිසා මිනිස් සංහතියට වූ විපතක තරම ඉහත දැක්වූ කරුණු වලින්ම අවබෝධ වනවා ඇත.

ලංකාවේ පෞද්ගලික විශ්වවිද්‍යාල දැමීමට එරෙහි විය යුතු හේතු ලෙස දැක්වෙන්නේ මොනවාද? එකක් නම් එවිට මුදලට උපාධි ගන්නට හැකිවනු ඇති බවයි. එනම් එය වරප්‍රසාද ලත් පන්තියකට සීමා වන බවයි. ඇයි එතකොට පුද්ගලික වෛද්‍ය විද්‍යාල දැමීමට විතරක් එරෙහි වෙන්නෙ? එතකොට පුද්ගලික ඉංජිනේරු විද්‍යාල? පුද්ගලික තොරතුරු තාක්ෂණ ආයතන?පුද්ගලික කලා විශ්වවිද්‍යාල?පුද්ගලික නීති පීඨ?පුද්ගලික ගණකාධිකාරී ආයතන? මේකෙන් කරුණු කීපයක් පේනවා.එකක් තමා මේ විරුද්ධවන පිරිස හිතනවා වෛද්‍ය වෘත්තිය අනෙක් ඒවට වඩා ලොකු එකක් කියලා.ඒකනෙ මේ වෙන හැන්දකින් බෙදාගන්න ඉල්ලන්නෙ.කෝ එතකොට සමානාත්මතාවය?ඇයි ඉංජිනේරුවො, ගනකාධිකාරයෝ මහන්සි වෙලා නෙවෙයිද ඉගෙනගෙන තියෙන්නෙ?ඒගෙල්ලො මොළේ අඩු නිසා නෙවෙයි ඒ අංශ තෝරගෙන තියෙන්නෙ.එහෙනම් ඒ ගොල්ලො ඇයි කෑ ගහන්නෙ නැත්තෙ?

මෑතක සිට මට හමු වූ බොහෝ දෙනෙකුට ලංකාව පිලිබඳ ප්‍රශ්නයක් ඇත.ඔව්හු යම් සම්පත් මද බවක් හෝ අකටයුත්තක් පිළිබඳව මැසිවිලි නගති. බොහෝ විට වාක්‍ය අවසන් වනුයේ පිටරටක ජීවත් වීමෙ වටිනාකම සහ එසේ සිටින කිහිපදෙනෙකුගෙ ලොකුකම් උජාරුවෙන් කියා පෑමෙනි.

ඇත්තටම ඔය කියන දේවල් එසේම සිදු වෙනවාද?

1970 ගනන් වල සිට ඇමරිකානු අධිරාජ්‍ය කරන සියලු දේවල් ලංකාවෙ මිනිසුන්ට හරි ය. ඒවා හරි වන්නේ එහි ගුණ නුගුණ මත නොව. ඒවා ඇමරිකාව විසින් ආරම්භ කිරීම පමණක්ම ඒවා හරි දේවල් වීමට සෑහේ. ඇමරිකානුවන්ට කිසිදෙයක් වරදින්නේ නැති බව බහුතර ශ්‍රී ලාංකිකයන්ගේ පිළිගැනීමයි. ඇත්තටම එය එසේ සිදුවෙනවාද?

මගේ මතය අනුවනම් ඇමරිකාවට වැරදුනු බොහෝ දේ ඇත. ද්‍රව්‍යමය වශයෙන් සැලකුවහොත් මගේ මතකයට නැගෙන අවස්ථා කීපයක් තිබේ. නාසා ආයතනය කොතරම් වාර ස්ංඛ්‍යාවක් අසාර්ථක ව්‍යපෘති නියැළුනාද යන්න සොයාබැලීම වටී.ඒ ඔවුනට හිමිවන ගෞරවයට නිගා කිරීමේ අරමුණින් නොව ඇති තතු නිවැරදිව වටහාගැනීමෙ පරම අවශ්‍යතාවය සඳහාම පමණි.

ඔය කියනතරම් පිට රටවල මිනිසුන් දියුණු නම් ඇමරිකාවේ ආර්ථික ක්‍රමය වැරදි බව ඔවුනට කල් ඇතිව නොතෙරුනේ ඇයි?බොරුවක් මවා පා මුලු ලොකෙටම එය බලෙන් පටවා දැං ඉතිං ආර්ථිකේ වැටුනෝ වැටුනෝ කියා කෑ ගසා ඵල නැත.මේ ලෝකය බොරු මාන වලින් මැනීම නවතා ඔවුනට ගැලපෙන මානයෙන් මැනිය යුතු හොඳම කාලයයි.

ඉරාකයට විරුද්ධව ඇරඹූ යුද්ධය සම්පූර්ණයෙන්ම අසාර්ථකය. ඇෆ්ගනිස්ථානයද වෙනසක් නැත. ඔතරම් තාක්ෂණය සහ දක්ෂතා තිබෙනවා යයි උදම් අනන ඇමරිකානු ආණ්ඩුවට හෝ හමුදාවට සාමාන්‍ය ජනතාවට හානි නොකර ත්‍රස්තවාදය මැඩපැවැත්වීම ඉතා අපහසු වී ඇති සෙයක් පෙනේ. ඒ අතින් ගත් කළ ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ ආණ්ඩුව සිටින්නේ ගව් ගණනක් ඉදිරියෙනි.රූපවාහිනී තිර වලින්, හොලිවුඩ් චිත්‍රපට සහ අනේකවිධ මාධ්‍ය භාවිත කරමින් තම රටේ කීර්තිඝෝෂය ලොවට කෑගසා ප්‍රකාශ කර අන් ජාතීන් බියට පත්ව තම රටට විරුද්ධ නොවෙතැයි සිතා සිටි ඇමරිකාවට ත්‍රස්තවාදීහු උඩින් පැමිණ ප්‍රහාර මාලාවක් එල්ල කළහ. ලංකාවේ බෝම්බ පුපුරණ නිසා කොළඹට නොයන්නැයි සිය රටවැසියන්ට උපදෙස් දුන් ඔවුන්ගේ ආණ්ඩුව මෙම ප්‍රහාරයෙන් වික්ෂිප්තව කළ හැක්කක් සිතාගත නොහැකිව අන්දමන්ද වූහ.තම රටේ වේවා, අන් රටක වේවා, ලංකාවට වඩා ඇමරිකාව හොඳ වන්නේ කෙසෙදැයි මටනම් නොවැටහේ.තම රටේ වේවා, අන් රටක වේවා, රාජ්‍ය ආරක්ෂාව අතින් ලංකාවට වඩා ඇමරිකාව හොඳ වන්නේ කෙසෙදැයි මටනම් නොවැටහේ. ඉරාකයේදී, ඇෆ්ගනිස්ථානයේදී මෙන්ම ඇමරිකාවේදීද ඔවුහු ලංකාවට වඩා අසාර්ථකය.

අපි ස්වාභාවික විපත් සළකමු. මෑතකදී කළු ඇමරිකානුවන් බහුතරය වූ නගරයකට ගංවතුර ගැලූ අවස්ථාවේ ඇමරිකානු ආණ්ඩුව ක්‍රියා කළ ආකාරය ලැජ්ජා සහගතය. විපතට පත්වූවන්ට ආධාර ඉතා ප්‍රමාද විය. හේතුව සොයන විට දැනගන්නට ලැබුනේ වර්ගවාදය පිළිබඳ කඹ ඇදිල්ලකි. බලා ඉන්නට බැරිම තැන පාරම්පරික සතුරෙකු වන කියුබාව දොස්තරලා එවන්නදැයි ඇසීය. සියළු ජීවීන් සමාන අයිතිවාසිකම් ඇතිව දෙවියන් විසින් මවන ලද බව පිළිගනිමු යයි ව්‍යවස්ථාව පවසන රටක සත්‍ය ස්වභාවය මෙයයි.ලංකාවේ සැළකියයුතු පිරිසක් වැඩිමනත් අවස්ථා වලදී උත්සාහ ගන්නේ අන්‍යන්ගේ කකුලෙන් ඇදීමටය. එහෙත් විපතකදී ඔවුනට වාද භේද නැත. ඔවුහු පුළුවන් උදවුවක් කරති. ලංකාවේ අපට ඇති ප්‍රශ්නය හොඳ ගති ගුණ හැංගිලා තිබීමය.

මානව වර්ගයාගේ ඉදිරි ගමන අර්ථවත් කරනු වස් ක්‍රියා කළ සහ ක්‍රියා කරන විශිෂ්ට අධ්‍යාපන ආයතන බොහෝ ගණනක් ඇමරිකාවේ ඇත. එහෙත් බහුතරයක් ආයතන මොනවා හෝ ටිකක ලොකු නමක් දමා උගන්වා කීයක් හරි කඩා ගන්නා ව්‍යාපාරික ස්ථානයන් වේ. ඇමරිකාවේ උපාධි ගන්නා ලංකාවේ සමහරුන්ට ඇමරිකාවේද ලංකාවේද රස්සාවල් නැත්තේ ඇයිදැයි සොයාබැලීමනම් ඉතා වටනේය.මිනිසකුගේ වටිනාකම ඇත්තේ ඉගනගත් පාසලේවත්, උපාධිය ගත් විශ්වවිද්‍යාලයේවත්, ඒ විශ්වවිද්‍යාලය තිබ්බ රටේවත්, වියදම් කළ ගණනේවත් නොව, ඔහුගේ දක්ෂතාවයේ සහ ගුණවත් බවේය.ඇමරිකාවේ සාක්ෂරතාවය ලංකාවට වඩානම් බොහෝ අඩුය. අපේ උසස් පෙළ ඔවුනගේ විශ්වවිද්‍යාල වල ප්‍රථම වසරට සමය. ඇමරිකානු ශිෂ්‍ය ගහණයෙන් අඩක්වත් උසස් පාසල් අධ්‍යාපනයට යොමු නොවෙති. මූලික හේතුව ආර්ථික ප්‍රශ්ණ විය යුතුය. 1 වසරේ සිට විශ්වවිද්‍යාලය දක්වා සතපහක් නොගෙන නිකං උගන්වන රටක් ගැන මම නම් තවත් අසා නැත.සියල්ල එසේ වූ පසුව නිදහස් අධ්‍යාපනය විසින්ම ඉහළ ඔසවා තැබූ යම් පිරිසක් මේ අධ්‍යාපන ක්‍රමය යල්පැන ඇතැයි කෑ ගසති.අපේ අධ්‍යාපන ක්‍රමය කොතරම් විචක්ෂණදැයි එයින්ම පෙනේ.තමන් උගත් ක්‍රමය විචාරය කිරීමට තරම් උගතුන් අපේ අධ්‍යාපන ක්‍රමය බිහිකර ඇත.එසේනුම් අපට වැරදුනේ කොතනද?අපි බහුතරය අඩුවෙන් මහන්සි වී වැඩියෙන් ඉපයීමට කැමතිය. කවුරු හෝ අපට ලොකු පඩියක් ගෙවනවාට අප කැමතිය. එහෙත් අලුත් යමක් කර හෝ කර ඇති දෙයක් වැඩිදියුණු කර නව මාවතක් සොයා යෑමට අප ගොඩ දෙනෙක් කම්මැලිය. අපේ ක්‍රමය වන්නේ එසේ කරන අයකු සොයාගෙන පිටරටකට හෝ ගොස් අයිනක් අල්ලාගෙන සිට ලොකු පඩිපතක් ලබාගෙන ලංකාවේ අරවා වැරදියි මේවා වැරදියි කියා කෑගසීමය.ලංකාවෙ තත්වය උසස් කිරීමට ඒ කෑගසන අය අඩුතරමින් උත්සාහයක්වත් නොගනිති.ඔවුන්ගේ ප්‍රධාන කර්තව්‍ය මෙහි සිටින අන්‍යන්ගේද මනස් අවුල් කර රට පැටවීමට උත්සාහ කිරීමය.අපට අවශ්‍ය වන්නේ වෙන මොකේවත් වෙනසක් නොවේ. වරද අපේ ආකල්ප වලය.

සෞඛ්‍ය සේවයද එසේමය. ලංකාවේ කොතරම් උසස් වෛද්‍ය පහසුකම් නොමිලේ ලැබේද?ඇමරිකාවේදීනම් වෛද්‍ය රක්ෂණය අවුල් වුවහොත් සිදුවන්නේ මහමග මියයාමටය.මා අසා ඇති ආකාරයට නම් සෞක්‍ය රක්ෂණයක් පවත්වාගෙන යාමද ලේසි නැත. ප්‍රාථමික අධ්‍යාපනයද එසේමය. පාසල් ගාස්තු ගෙවිමට අපහසුනම් නාම මාත්‍ර පාසල් වලට යැවීමට සිදු වේ. ඒවායේ ඔය මොනවා හෝ ටිකක් උගන්වයි. එම රටවල සියලු පාසල් එකම තත්ව පාළනයකට යටත්වන ස්වභාවයක් මම නම් නොදනිමි. ඉංග්‍රීසියෙන් කථාකිරීම ලංකාවේ බහුතරය සළකන්නේ වරප්‍රසාදයක් ලෙසය. ඇතැම් විට සමහර වරප්‍රසාද ලබීමට එකම සුදුසුකම ඉංග්‍රීසි වී ඇත. අහෙත් එම රටවල මවු භාෂාව ඉංග්‍රීසි නිසා හැමෝම ඉංග්‍රීසියෙන් කතා කරති. එය අපට ලොකු වුනාට ඔවුනට ලොකු නැත.

තුන්වන ලෝකයේ රටවල් වලින් යන මිනිසුන්ව ගොඩයන් ලෙස සැලකීමට ඇමරිකාවේ සහ යුරෝපයේ රටවල් වල සැළකියයුතු පිරිසක් පෙළඹී ඇත. ඒවාට ප්‍රතික්‍රියා කරන අපේ ඇතමුන් නැති මාන්නයක් මවා පෑමට උත්සාහ කරති. සමහරු ප්‍රචන්ඩත්වයට නැඹුරු වී ඇත. ඔවුහු ඕනෑම විටක ආරෝවකට සූදානම්‍ය. මේවාට පිළිතුරු ලෙස අපේ අපේ අයගේ සමාජ බිහිවී ඇත. ඇතැම් ඒව හොඳය. එහෙත් ඇතැම් ඒව ලිඳ ළඟ ස්ංගම්‍ය. දෙමවුපියන් දරුවන් පවුල් පිටින් අනෙක් පවුල් සමග සීතල යුද්ධ වල පැටලී ඇත. කපිලි කෙටිලි, පම්පෝරි වැහි වැහැලාය.

මේවා කෙසේ වෙතත් තරුණ තරුණියන් නම් රට යාමට බොහෝ කැමතිය. එකක් එය විලාසිතාවක් වීමය. අනෙක ලැබෙන නිදහසය. රට යෑමෙන් ඔවුනට පුදුම නිදහසක් ලැබේ. වැඩිහිටි කිසිවෙකුත් ඔවුනට නීති නොදමති. ඔවුනටත් ගෙවල් දොරවල් ගැන සොයා බලා දන්නා අඳුරන අයට මුහුණදීමේ වගකීමක් නැත. රට යන සියලු දෙනාට ඉබේ හරියනවා යයි ලංකාවේ අය සිතා සිටින නිසා ලංකාවෙ සිටින ඔවුන්ගේ ඥාතීන්ටද මුහුණදීමට පහසුය. ඔවුහු බහුතරය තමන් ලද අධ්‍යාපනයට කොහෙත්ම අදාල නොවන රැකියාවක් කර කීයක් හරි සොයාගෙන ජොලි කරති. ඔවුන්ද ඔවුන්ගේ ඥාතීන්ද ඒවාට සරිලන කතා ගොතාගෙන ඒවා හරි ලොකු වැඩ යයි අන්‍යන්ට හැඟෙන පරිදි කටයුතු කරති. මා දන්නා ඇතැම් රටගිය ඇත්තන්ට එහෙ සොයන මුදල් මදි වී මෙහෙනුත් තව යැවිය යුතුය. මෙහි පැමිණ අන්‍යන්ට මුහුනදීමට අපහසු නිසා ඔවුහු අමාරුවෙන් එහිම සිටිති. රට ගිය සියට 90වකම කතාව එසේය. ඉතුරු සියට 10 නම් හොඳින් සිටිති.පිට රට සිටින බොහෝ ලාංකිකයෝ මෙහි පැමිණ මෙහි සිටින අයෙකු සමග විවාපත්ව යළි රට යති. හේතුව සොයා බලන විට බොහෝවිට සිදුව ඇත්තේ එහෙ සිටින බහුතරය නන්න්ත්තාර වීමය.මෙහෙ අය ඒව නොදන්නා නිසා මෙහෙ ආ විට ඔවුහු බෝධිසත්වයන් බවට පත් වේ.

කීයක් හරි සොයාගෙන ඒමට රට යෑම හෝ ආසවට රවුමක් ගසා ඒම හෝ සැබවින්ම පෞද්ගලික හෝ වෘත්තීය ඉදිරි ගමන වෙනුවෙන් රට යෑමේ නම් කිසිම වරදක් නැත. එසේ යන අය එම රටවල් දිවිය ලෝක සේ මවා නොදක්වති.ඇතැම් රටවල ලංකාවේ නැති බොහෝ හොඳ දේවල් ඇත. ඒවා ගැන කතා කරනවානම් එය වෙනම කළ යුතුය. ඒ ඇර ඔය කියනතරම් අවුලක් මටනම් ලංකාවේ නැත.ඇතැම් රටවල සීතල කාලයට ඇඳුමක්වත් වේලා ගැනීමට නොහැක. වැස්ස කාලෙට ගං වතුරය. පායනකොට ලැවුගිනිය.එක්කෝ භූමිකම්පාය.නැත්තම් නාය යාම් ය.කොතරම් පෑහෙන්නට උත්සාහ කළත් එක්කෝ දේශගුණය හරස්වේ. නැත්නම් සංස්කෘතිය හරස් වේ.ඇතැම්හු ජීවිතයෙන් අඩකටත් වඩා පෑහීමට උත්සාහ කර නොහැකි වූ කළ ජීවිතයේ සැඳෑ සමයේ නැවත මෙහි පැමිණෙති.හොඳට සිතා බලන්න. ඔබ එවැනි කීදෙනෙක් දන්නවාඩ කියා.එහෙත් තමන් පසුතැවෙන බව අන්‍යන්ට නොඇඟවීමට ඔවුහු වෙන කුමක් හෝ හේතුවක් කියා ලෙස්සා යති.මට නම් එවැනි අය ඕනෑතරම් හමු වී ඇත.

ලංකාවේ අත පය දිග හැර ජීවත් වූ ලක්ෂපතියෝද එංගලන්තයේ හුන්ඩු වගේ කාමර වල හිරවී අමාරුවෙන් දිවි ගෙවති.මිරිස් දමා කෑම පිසුවහොත් මිරිස් සැර ආවා යැයි අල්ලපු ගෙදර නිවැසියා නඩු දමයි. පොඩි එකා සද්දෙට ඇඩුවත් සිදුවන්නේ එයමය.ජපානයද එසේමය.ඔවුන්ගේ කාමරයකට වඩා අපේ නාන කාමරයද ලොකුය.ජීවිතය ගැටගසා ගැනීමට රස්සා 3ක් 4ක් කිරීමටද සිදු වේ.මිනිස්සු මෙච්චර දුක් විඳින්නේ ඇයි දැයි මටනම් නොවැටහේ.මටනම් සිතෙන්නේ පුහු මාන්නයට කියාය.රට සිට නිවාඩුවට මෙහි පැමිණි කීප දෙනෙක් මට හමුවිය.ඇමරිකාවට, යුරෝපයට හා ඔස්ට්‍රේලියාවට ගොස් ආ ඔවුන් හරියට ඉතියොපියාවේ සිට ආවා සේ දිස් විය.

සිංගප්පූරුව වැනි ඇතැම් රට වල හැමෝටම වාහන මිල දී ගැනීම තහනම් ය.ඇතැම් රටවල පාරේ කතා කර කර සිටීම පවා තහනම් ය.අපේ අය ලෝකයේ ඔක්කොම රටවල හොඳ ටික එකතු කර ඒවා ඔක්කොම ලංකාවේ නැතැයි කෑගසති.ලංකාවේත් ගොඩාක් නරක් දේ ඇත.එය වෙනම කතාවකි. එහෙත් පිට රටව්ලුත් ඔය කියනතරම් ලස්සන නැත.

ඉස්කෝලෙ යන කාලෙ අපට යමක් සංසන්දනය කිරීමට උගන්වයි. එහෙත් බොහෝ දෙනෙකු පාසලින් අස්වූ පසු එම පාඩම අමතක කර ඇති බව පෙනේ.ඔවුහු කවුරුන් හෝ කී දෙයක් අසාගෙන ඒක හොඳයි කියමින් සිටිති.තමන්ම දෙයක් ගැඹුරින් සොයා බලා, සංසන්දනය කර අවබෝධ කරගැනීමට උත්සාහ නොකරති.කොලපාට කන්නාඩියක් දමාගෙන ලෝකය බැලූ විට සියලු දේ කොලපාටය.එහෙත් ඇත්තටම සියලු දේ කොලපාටද?කන්නාඩි ගලවා ලෝකය දැකීමට කාලයයි මේ.

යේසුස් ගව ලෙනක ඉපදී බිෂොප් මාළිගාවක ජීවත් වීම සහ බුදු පුතුන් ගිහිගෙය අත්හැර රන් පවුරු තැනීම...

ගොඩකාලෙක ඉදලා දැකපු දෙයක් කියාගන්න විදියක් නැතුව හිටියෙ. හැමෝම එහෙම නෑ. ඒත් බහුතරය මෙහෙමයි. හොද අයත් ඉන්නවා.

මෙවැනි දේවල් වලින් මෙලොව පරලොව දියුණුව පතන මිනිස්සුන්ට තියන වටිනාකම මටනමි එතරමි පැහැදිලි නෑ.මැදුමි පිළිවෙත නමි ඇත්තෙම නෑ. අධික සැප සමිපත් පරිහරණය කරන පිළිවෙතක් තමා තියෙන්නේ. සියලු දේ මුදලින් මනින ලෝකයක ආගම දහම පිරිහීම පුදුමයකුත් නොවෙයි. ඒකත් තව වෙළදාමක් වෙලා.

මෙවන් අනුවණයෝ නිසා සැබෑ ආගමික නායකයින් වගේම සැබෑ සැදැහැවත් අනුගාමිකයෝ වල්මත් වෙලා පසුගාමී වෙනවා.යුක්තිය බලය වේ කිවුවට සමහර වෙලාවට බලය යුක්තිය වෙන බව තමා පේන්නේ. විකාර දකින සිහිබුද්ධිය ඇති මිනිස්සු තමන්ගේ විමුක්තිය තනිව සොයා යන්න පටන් ගන්නවා. හරියට යේසුස් සහ බුදු හාමුදුරුවෝ කළා වගේ.

ඇත්ත හැමදාම පවතිනවා. අවුරැදු දහස් ගණනකට වරක් කවුරුහරි ඒක දැකලා අවෙබෝධ කරගෙන අන් අය ගැන අනුකමිපාවෙන් සොයාගත් දේ බෙදා ගන්නවා. ටික කාලයක් යනකොට මිනිස්සුන්ට වැදගත් වෙන්නේ ඇත්ත නෙවෙයි, අපි කාගේ ගෝලයොද කියන එකයි. ඒ සාධකයත් අපේ ජීවිත වලට පුහු මාන්නය එකතු කරන තවත් එක සාධකයක් විතරක් බවට පත්වෙනවා. මේ දේ ඇත්ත කියල අපි ගොඩක් දෙනෙක් දන්නවා.ඒත් අපි ඒක පිළිගන්නේ නෑ.නිවැරදි පිළිවෙත් මත පිහිටා කටයුතු කරනවට වඩා අපි කැමතියි අපේ පුලුවන්කමි පෙන්නන්න. ඇත්ත ආයෙත් අදුරින් වැහිලා යනවා.මිනිස්සුන්ට බොරුව අවෙබෝධ වෙන්න තව අවුරුදු දාස් ගානක් යාවි.බොරුව තේරිලා ඇත්ත හොයාගන්නත් තවත් අවුරුදු දාස් ගානක් යාවි. අපිත් එච්චරකල් ඉපිද ඉපිද මැරෙයි. ඒ මොකද, අපිත් සියට 75ක් විතරම බොරැවට කැමතිය්නේ!

Machan

I had the opportunity to watch Machan a few days back and I consider it the most spectacular film that took my senses at once after a long period of time since I watched the famous Gladiator.

The film has what we call “The first impression”. I’m not a great fan of Sinhala films but I have watched main stream films Agni Daahaya, Guerilla Marketing, Pura Handa Kaluwara, Aksharaya, Aba and a few other commercial films just to keep in touch with local cinema. Unlike other Sinhala films that I have mentioned here, I started watching Machan without any prior prediction. It was like a neutral mind status for me. If you take Agni Daahaya or Aba, marketing campaigns have made the images for those films nudging us to align our imagination with what is being marketed (Same thing as what Obama did). There is nothing wrong in that approach if what is marketed is true. But I noticed Machan never had a strong marketing campaign.

The Plot

The film is inspired by a true story. It is mentioned at the beginning. It is not a true story; it is just inspired by some true happenings. I saw at some points a few people claiming a true story has been deviated in the film. That is totally alright because the true story is just there for inspiration.

The film shows a dark side of Colombo. The film starts with showing a slum area in Colombo. My first impression was this doesn’t give a good message about our country. But gradually that impression faded from me due to the fact of the film’s approach towards that community. We have to admit that life of our country exists. I see it daily because I walk through a shanty town to reach where I work.

The whole story of film depends on 23 poor guys who escape to Europe after several unsuccessful attempts. They try every possible way both legally and illegally and finally meet success by forming a hand ball team.

Exposing the Society

On the way to going to Germany the film shows how things happen in Sri Lanka. It is amazing how the creators have captured even the smallest happenings in our society. The cleverness of the film makers is displayed by not exaggerating the events. Sometimes films put on more weight on love, fights, glamour or heroic acts which eventually make that film non realistic. But Machan has overcome that all. There is nothing call over acting at all.

The old man waiting on the queue outside the embassy on behalf of a wealthy embassy attendant, the fellow who sells oranges on roads, one who cheats on people to send them abroad and swindle money, the guy who sells sex labor for living, how poor people are addicted to put bet on horse races, guys who paste posters in the night for a living, the leftist movements; these all open up our society. We meet these people daily on roads. I was really amazed to see how these makers have had been able to catch the smallest corners of life and more importantly they have lined up them in an easy flowing order.

How the police fellows get into the team, how Piyal and his girl friend go to a net café to find out more on handball and how Piyal says he got that hair band from MC (Majestic City is a popular culture shopping mall in Sri Lanka where young people talk of with sort of a proud feeling), the way Jasmin tries to show outer world his husband Naseem is doing a descent job where he is only a tea boy in an office, the attitude of the young fellows towards Europe, they all make the film very realistic. When watching the film it feels so closer to me simply because I have come across hundreds of real characters like these in my life.

Cast

The makers of Machan have selected the cast very cleverly to capture a vast area of the society it is talking about.

Stanly is an irresponsible, easy going type of a character. But he has a good side of him. He brings food and medicine for his old aunts. Cares about his little brother and behaves as a good friend. His friendship is exposed when his and Manoj’s VISAs get rejected he gives a final try saying Manoj is a good barman. Even when they leave the country finally he waits a bit more than others just hoping Manoj will turn up at the last moment. When they lose a match and as Ruwan starts scolding Manoj, even in Manoj’s absence Stanly defends Manoj.

Stanly wears a chain around his neck with a cross. His sister is married to Suresh who is a Tamil. Manoj’s family practices Buddhist customs and rituals. Jasmin and Naseem are Muslims. This shows how different ethnicities are blend together and live together and how roots come to action when something goes wrong. When a quarrel occurs as guys play they blame each other using their roots, which is sometimes common in Sri Lanka.

Manoj is playing the good, well behaving guy’s character. He is always a gentleman caring his family and friends. He guides them and feels for them. He always takes Stanly with him and makes sure Stanly will share the same fortune if he gets one. When going inside the VISA approving room Manoj tries to make Stanly’s clothes look better. A sudden accidental incident happens there and Manoj tries his best to get Stanly have some work around. Manoj is always conscious and always thinking. He comes up with the name for the team “Sri Lanka National Handball Team” that suited their intention really well. His caring for his family is displayed when he takes them for a dinner at his work place hotel. He gets embarrassed due to the odd way of behavior of his family at that alien place. He sees a long way ahead and declines going to Europe saying if he earns more social status he would want to drop his family and move away from them to avoid embarrassment. So he wants to be with them. He decides to stay as who he is now. That is the dedication of him towards the ones he loves. This is very natural. I have seen so many people who have dropped their families due to this fact. This is clever filming.

Vijith is the guy who has a better family of all. His father is a leftist protesting and organizing campaigns against capitalism. Vijith enjoys more luxuries and he is more exposed to the world. He actively involves with his father’s work and at the same time he helps these poor friends. Even though he feels for them he does not share the same intention to go abroad initially. Eventually he starts helping them and joins them at the end. His freely behavior due to backing up of his family is exposed throughout the character and Vijith is the one introducing the minority conventional leftist activities of Sri Lankan society.

Piyal is the guy who sells his labor for sex. Even though he does this for living he has a good side of having a truthful relationship with a girl. Truthful in the sense he does not want to miss use the girl. His appearance, the way he dresses and the way he talks, everything matches with the real fellows who do this type of work.

Ruwan plays as the swindler who promises to take people to countries illegally. This is very common in Sri Lanka especially in coastal areas. This fellow’s cunning characteristics are displayed cleverly.

The Flow of Events and Music

The characters and the flow of story are selected really carefully to give the maximum exposure of the society and the topic the film covers. It covers almost every corner of that particular society. At some points I felt acting should have been a bit smoother but for most of the times it was very good. The film never gives unnecessary weight on the characters that are played by well distinguished actors. They appear for very small parts and their personal characteristics are never highlighted unlike in some other films. It all adds up light to the film. The film never highlights a single character. It stands as a collective work which is good to see in Sri Lanka.

Music plays a great role in Machan. It enhances the events and the way audience feels the story. Sentimental occasions are accompanied by light piano and eastern pot type of music. Aggressive or livelier type of incidents are spiced with dominating trombone, trumpet like music. To highlight the youth energetic moments they have used popular reggae type Sri Lankan music done by the group Jaya Sri.

It is amazing how directors have captured even the smallest common attitudes of Sri Lankans. There is an incident where Suresh (Stanly’s brother in law) shares his hardships with an old person who works at the hotel wash room where Suresh is a cleaner. That elderly person loses his job due to a new hand drying machine set up in the wash room. It shows the approach of employers to adopt what comes from Europe and US without looking into deeper at the matters of the poor employees. To get rid of economic hardships Stanly’s sister tries to go mid east as a house maid. Their family faces so many problems due to local donor who asks for a very high interest from Suresh for the lent money. This covers up a vast area by capturing small incidents like these. The film is never too serious but a universal truth for youth of 3rd world countries runs underneath the story injecting it to our nerves secretly. The humor throughout the film keeps audience alive and stick to the seats. The clothing, make up, and all that is just perfect for the story.

Machan is almost perfect blend of story, humor, emotion, music and everything. If you describe it by a single word, I would prefer the word GREAT! It’s a good film I have watched after ages and it is good because the truth about the film is good. It is not made high by critics or marketing campaigns. It is not something rebellion questioning the social etiquette or our culture or our politics or anything else. It is good because it talks to the hearts of the viewers with some genuine thoughts dropping hidden agendas of individuals who are trying to build up personal images for themselves by some mean.

I feel there is a lot to learn from the film by everybody. It leaves something for each of us to think on.

The name "Machan" is used by every ethnic group in Sri lanka. Let it be in Sinhala, Tamil or English; in Sri Lanka every guy calls another "Machan". Irrespective of the back ground the word is commonly used at all levels. It is like "Comrade" in communist countries and "Dude" in english speaking countries. The film is about friends from different back grouds who work for a common goal. The name too suits the film very much.

BSc, MSc, MBA and PhD in Popular Culture

In different times different matters come into play differently. In the pre historic era mobs of people hanged together and worked together for common reasons. Let those reasons be hunting or survival or whatever. Gradually when the human kind started getting organized they started to share what they expertise. Initially it would have been hunting techniques or something like putting up a fire. As the civilization builds up people started developing different skills in various capacities. Evolving for thousands of years we have reached modern era where education is considered a basic need.

Some 100 years back literacy was a privilege experienced by a limited group in the community. People who could read and write were considered educated. Then the world started getting smaller by easy access to any location of the world. So, more and more people started to get introduce to various different cultures, inventions, developments, religions, theories etc. More importantly people started to learn how to do something in different ways. There is another significant by product of this evolution. That is we all started comparing each of us. In that aspect the world we are living today has formed up some basic ground that provides the means of measuring the educational level of a modern human being. Literacy is no more the only measurement. Prominence is given to intelligence and creativity. Even the experience is losing its position. A few decades back experience was a major factor but now people think if you are intelligent enough and if you are creative you can always use your imagination to fill up the gap of inexperience.

For me the primary goal of education is to enhance ones skills to contribute our centuries old civilization in a way that the short term results would keep that person glad while he is alive. The capacity of the contribution depends on the nature of the person. Some contribute more than others. Some contribution are towards the downfall of fare well of majority. Due to different imaginations of different people some stop learning vastly at some point of their life and continue contribution which is commonly called as earning a living. But some people specialize in selected subject area and try to contribute in vast capacity compared to others.

But as always education itself comes with a whole bunch of other external influences and bonds. The complexity of the modern world is not necessarily needed to have a good life on earth. But due to many reasons and facts that are not easily pulled back instantly, we have come to what we call today. So in our world in which we live there is this levels of education. I believe, initially these levels would have revealed the true status of a person. For instance if we say a scientist, he or she could have been easily identified among the general public for his or her exceptional existence. So some time back educated people were well recognized for their work. They had been accepted with gratitude in all occasions and they have had been less in number. These types of contrasting and highlighted qualities have been pumped a certain type of image to the general public. As a matter of fact I have noticed in Sri Lanka there is a generation who are not educated that highly but wants their children to grab that aforesaid glory. To be exact I’m talking about my parents’ generation.

According to the way we live majority of the goods and services are sold at a price. Everything gets a price. To live on earth people who know something sell it and exchange that value to acquire something else he or she needs. When too many people know a single thing due to common availability things start to get sold cheaply. Then complex marketing concepts come into play. To manipulate sources and resources stake holders adopt several different practices. If something is not given easily by some person the seeker may try a different donor. Considering the variation of sources, resources and users this seeking is acceptable if and only if the seeker genuinely feel he or she should continue this.

I’m a graduate. My degree says I’m a Bachelor of Computer Science. So as a matter of fact, I have been in this so called education field and experienced quite a bit of this situation. Some frequently monitored facts lead me to write this article. Because of the social structure we practice irrespective of the talent of a person there are some occasions where certificates get into play. Like I previously said sometime back literacy was the measurement of one’s capacity to contribute towards something that is considered a special skill. But now literacy is just a basic. Likewise I see the BSc is getting into the similar stage of literacy because it is becoming low in quality. If we discuss why it is getting low in quality, this article will never reach its end! The prime fact I see is there is a large number of people who grab an educational qualification just for the sake of its name. They don’t have a real requirement to get that. By means of some external power, say money, they get it for exchange. What happens is when these types of people comes into contribution others discover the incapabilities which often result in damaging the image of the others who are really competent and skilled who come from the same place. There are some bullies who survive from just doing the talking. If we take 100 in Sri Lanka, around 70% is doing something just for the trend.

Around a decade back in Sri Lanka graduates continued higher studies often if they were really up to it. But since of late in Sri Lanka I have noticed fresh graduates are getting enrolled for MScs and MBAs as soon as they get graduated. Some 5-10 years back local universities asked for some work experience and pre requisites prior to enrolling. But due to high competition and survival the quality of pre requisites have dramatically decreased thereby producing educated fools. There are good post graduates among these people. Anyhow the majority just do it as a mean of surviving by providing educational qualification. I also have the intention of doing higher studies. I have a few aspects. I have learnt something for my degree. Irrespective of subjects getting obsolete the best thing I learnt at university was how to learn something by one self. After 3 years leaving the university I find myself pretty changed. The way I look at things, the approach I have towards matters, my new requirements, they all have changed. I have practical experience in what I have learnt with very little practicing aspect. When I go through some MSc syllabus summaries I feel like some parts I already know, but I know I should study them again merging them with what’s unknown to me just to organize my knowledge so that I will be more capable, more competent, more skilled and more efficient. I won’t say that I’m not totally passionate about the qualification. I will definitely use such a thing to broaden my carrier opportunities. What I say is it is not the only intension because I’m not satisfied living a one big lie. I have found hundreds who do MScs just because they need something or just to boast on it as they think it is the same old privilege. On the other hand I have heard thousands of stories on how incompetent some educated people are. So there are two sides of the story. This story is true even for PhDs. Still there are number of people who are really capable and competent just like in old days posing BScs, MScs, MBAs and PhDs. Like in all other fields there are show offs who have earned BScs, MScs, MBAs and PhDs just by some means. These non genuine educated fools see the qualifications as an icon in popular culture. They don’t make their respective fields shine; instead they try to shine themselves with using the qualifications which eventually results in disgusting situations.

LTTE, Sri Lanka, India and Rest of the World

The world always changes. They say the only thing that does not change is “Change” itself. The earth passes different ages. So does the mankind and our civilization. When we try to live in a community there is always problems due to the fact of mismatches in the way we think. Some problems are solved in the initial grounds but some goes a long way unsolved. Solving matters in the modern world is not easy since the whole world is too much bound together. We are living the information age. So the details reach every corner of the world in seconds. As it has happened throughout our civilization the stronger nations always want to play a role as a matter of showing off the big image which gradually ends up in aggravating the matters of the weaker nations. This way of trying to influence the weaker nations is a nature of our civilization throughout its existence. I think this nature is greatly exposed and discussed by Charles Darwin’s “Theory of Evolution”. The concept “Stronger survives – weaker disappears” says it all. The stronger always tries to influence the weaker. But the nature gives chances to all to evolve. If anybody changes accordingly within the given time even the weaker can become stronger like what happened in the Jurassic age. The strong survivors in the Jurassic age could not hang on because they didn’t change themselves accordingly. But the weaker survived because they changed themselves and became stronger gradually. That’s where my point lies. Sri Lanka is relatively weaker in most of the modern measurements. So we have to play by the brain.

We have a terrorist war that has initial roots to ethnic matters. The majority, minority, leaders and general public, all have been wrong up to different extents. But now most of us have had enough of it. Even though now the matter cannot be solved easily because everybody wants to play a part of it. There are both local and international people who earn their living because of war. They never want the war to be ended. These people include weaponry manufacturers, armed forces, all sort of facility providers to the conflicts, organizations who work with displaced people, even critics who earn by organizing demonstrations, writing articles and holding press conferences. These people are involved directly. There are so many who are indirectly taking advantage of this. They are the real players and they are more vigorous. All the foreign companies and governments fall into this category.

WAR, ECONOMY AND US

We all know because of this conflict Sri Lanka is wasting really valuable resources in all categories. They may be labor or material or whatever. The wastage should be really high which means Sri Lanka should have been contributing to the world in much greater capacity than what it is doing at present. For instance if we did not have this conflict our annual exports should have gone much higher and our gross domestic production (GDP) should have gone higher which would result in less imports ultimately building up a stronger economy. We import goods ranging from needles to planes. If we had a better economy all the countries that are exporting goods to us would lose a considerable amount of export revenue. If we take India as an example, they export even the smallest spices to us. They sell us all the clothing, food stuff, vehicles, metal makes, weaponry, stationary etc. So if we solve our internal problems and cut off a great amount of imports it is obvious that these types of countries would feel economic problems. Their whole economy may not shake but they will have some impact. Since we have a huge war expense burden on our economy we are running short of money which results in asking for foreign aid. Everything comes with a price! So does the foreign aids. Even though modern countries vow not to interfere other independent nations they always find some way of interfering. I feel we have to listen to them if we take funds. Let’s say we give loans to a friend several times. First time, second time we won’t mind what he does. But eventually we may feel like we should suggest him what to do because we start to feel it is our money and we have rights to suggest something. We have to expect this interference because it is the nature of it. The best way is to avoid funding and try standing up on our own foot which is no simple process. We have gone astray for a very long period now. Majority of the people like to see subordinates of them. So does the nations. Nations who are capable of that try to hold on to that keeping other weaker nations drowned in trouble so that weakers will ask for help and the stronger will find the play grounds. So there are so many nations who like to see us in conflicts for the betterment of their nations. Other than this I don’t see a huge issue why other countries try to keep us in trouble. There may be religious interests and many other but they come in smaller form. Not in a capacity of a government. I don’t believe that other countries feel Sinhalese should be terminated because they have some specialty. I have heard such a quote but I don’t see any exceptional specialty in Sinhalese. We may have different identity but they are identities not specialties. Deviating from this long hold influence is a tedious process that takes a long time. At least we have to be aware of this so that one day there would appear a leader who would clear this up. Until that day we have to carry the words so that he or she will get to know it. Our country first had King Dutugemunu. He took centuries to appear. After another few centuries the mighty Parakkramabahu the 1st appeared. After another few centuries came the great Parakkranabahu the 6th came. So we have to understand that leaders don’t come easy. Nations should have patience on them.

WAR AGAINST TERRORISM

Let’s merge LTTE and the world. Prior to September 11 attack to USA most of the terrorists had a good time on earth because the world power USA was dumb against terrorism. Most of the terrorists were given the label REBELS instead of calling them TERRORISTS. USA didn’t feel the pain of terrorism because they were so blind with boasting on their nation. Surprise, surprise. They were hit and so did the famous war against terrorism started. It is a different story how the world powers have given birth to terrorists and feed them. Thank god at last LTTE was labeled as terrorists by most of the nations. Better late than never. But still for CNN, BBC and some other renowned media LTTE is rebellions. Although the governments put icing the internal intentions are still the same. Long before the World Trade Center Sri Lanka’s Central Bank tower collapsed due to an LTTE suicide attack in 1996. The world didn’t feel the pain. They took years to recognize the incident. So we have to understand correctly where we live and what we call the world. Long before Newton said every action has an equal and opposite reaction, Buddha said you will get what you deserve due to the action you have done. It may be in this life time or in another. So the others will realize this truth at some point of our civilization. Let’s hope they will not get so late. We have to handle the international community intelligently because they can always make trouble as there are more than enough traitors in any nation who fondly help to prevent betterment of majority looking at personal gains they get. So we need a good interface between us and the international community with a good personality to hold on what we believe and what is truth about things that are of our interests.

WHERE WE GET HELP

All the nations in the world are not like this. Let’s consider the countries that are involved with Sri Lanka in a deeper manner. USA and countries from Europe union will never sell us weapons because their law says “Cannot sell weapons to armies which involve in internal conflicts”. They will never help our war. If we get a little help from them that may be just to mark their presence among other helping nations and may be to get what they can get from our armies. We get armed trucks and amphibious vehicles from Czech Republic, China and Russia. We buy majority of guns from China and Russia. China, Israel and Russia sell us war planes. Some talks so passionately about purchasing junk planes from Russia. Who else sell us planes when USA has banned us from their weapon purchasing list? People just try to shout and direct people towards their personal gains because most of the citizens don’t know the subject and they are easily misguided. Sometimes people are not much worried about these issues other than their daily battle to earn some living. Pakistan helps us very much with weapons like mortars, RGPs (Rocket Propelled Grenades) and all that. India provides us radars and other types of weapons. Dora high speed boats are from Israel. All these countries provide us very valuable training to us as well. If we lose India due to any reason Pakistan would always fill the gap. So we don’t need to worry about western powers because they have never done anything more than just shouting on what to do next. We would never lose any foreign fund because it is the major tactic how they keep us influenced. They would continue to fund us. Even the history holds witness for that. This tactic is very nicely exposed in the book “Confessions of an Economic Hitman” by John Perkins (ISBN 0-452-28708-1). Another reason why we would get enough funding is western world is feared of us getting fallen into the hands of China, Russia and Iran. So they try to grab most of us as much as possible as soon as they can.

One more thing should be come up here. The cost of the army maintenance. There are more than 100, 000 new recruits. The navy makes new small boats in vast scale. Fighter jets are newly added equipment from Israel and China. Soldiers and their families are given better facilities including medical, food, housing, schooling etc. Sri Lankan soldiers are now fighting for passion on motherland. They no more fight for the salary. That is why we have sacrificing small commando teams who sneak through LTTE territory in help of providing open ups for the fellow soldiers. Even though, the stories of these true heroes hardly reach our society. It is pure sacrificing of life for mother land. They are not doing it for money. That is the professionalism of our army. In a site I read on our army supplies. One Czech made amphibious vehicle article said Sri Lanka has purchased something around 250 where the original maker had 350s. So to keep an army up to this standard there should be a lot of money. I don’t want to clear up the dirty people who try to grab commission from every deal. There are people like that. But everybody is not so. So it is obvious that our cost of living goes up. Government cannot defend criticism with showing the military details because it may result in disasters like that have happened in the past. But I don’t agree with the visible wastage of public money by the government of Sri Lanka. That is another story. We should not change tracks when addressing matters!

USA, UK, JAPAN OR INDIA?

Other countries can hardly solve our problem because each and every conflict has its own nature. It is very hard to understand the background of a problem if the analyzer is from a totally alien culture. But monitoring the matters for a long time in a neutral mind would open up better ways to address the problems. There is a simple truth about solving matters. The solver has to practice the advice and set it by example. That’s why it says “Owa denu para hata – Thamaa sammathehi pihitaa sita” (Before advising others – Set it by example). If we take USA they are totally failed in Iraq. No matter how big they boast on their military and intelligence power they are unable to stop the daily blasts and killings. With less high tech gadgets and weaponry our army is much more practical and competent than the army of USA. USA is still struggling to find a proper solution to Afgan matter. No matter how high they think of themselves they are not as that capable. If we take United Kingdom, who is another stake holder in this matter, they had a critical problem with Ireland up to the recent history. IRA guerillas continuously asked for a separate country. Anyhow they managed to solve the matters with the aging leaders of IRA but still they pose incompetent in Iraqi and Afgan matters. Another key role player is Japan which suggests us something that is prohibited in Japan. Japanese envoy Yashushi Akashi suggested us solutions which are highly unsupported by Japanese constitution just to keep the integrity of the country. These people act in such a way thinking that we poor fellows don’t know anything about their country. These people see us like a bunch of dumb idiots who haven’t seen the world. The other major remaining player is India who has more than enough problems of its own. For more than 6 decades they are trying to solve the Kashmir matter with Pakistan. Chain bombs go off inside their parliament and capital. Indian leaders are still unable to find a proper solution to Hindu Muslim conflicts in the country. With all the nuclear power and technology they took more than 30-40 years to capture a jungle thief Veerappan. More significantly India is the country who made this problem worse by training terrorists like Karuna Amman, Pottu Amman, and Prabakaran. They provided training, weapons and even air supplied food. Anyhow India got its gift with the assassination of their Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi by an LTTE suicide bomber. LTTE still smuggle weapons from south India. The RAW (Research and Analysis Wing) had to close up its Sri Lankan wing due to their unsuccessful attempt to influence Sri Lanka. Indian army lost some 3000-4000 lives occupying Sri Lanka. India has so many racial, cultural, religious and political issues to address. But still they try to show off the world a big picture of themselves. It is not the country we see in Bollywood films. India once ended up in nowhere and it is better to concentrate on their own matters before thinking of trying to solve matters of others.

The best part of all is none of the above countries is the main investor in Sri Lanka. It is China who gives us the largest funding and it is China who invests the biggest amount in Sri Lanka.

SOLUTION - HAVE WE ONE?

People change with time. So does the nations. In Sri Lanka around some 20-30 years back there were people who called themselves UNPers. Some called themselves SLFPers. Even the artists were like that. So when one party wins renowned people of the other party are made uncomfortable throughout the life time of the new government. When there was a racial issue or such a small quarrel others could take advantage of it and aggravate the problems because the mindset of the general public had been somewhat relatively primitive just to consider the sayings of a pretend to be a leader like person. Sri Lankans have learnt from the past. Look at the southern cities. Look at the offices in southern cities. Sinhalese, Muslims and Tamils live and work in harmony. There are very few concerns left like learning Tamil and Sinhala by everybody which I think is possible. Now a days even politicians change their parties regularly. So people don’t consider it a must to stick to a single party. They change the views and parties as and when they feel to do so. So do the artists and that make it difficult to dirty leaders to take advantage of the isolated incident occurring. At present even for a trade union action people don’t enthusiastically participate because it has become just a show off of a few political characters most of the times. So Sri Lankans are ultimately heading towards a state where they would consider it before taking any action which is good in preventing the wrongdoings that has happened in this country in the name of race and religion. A very good example is the way Sri Lankans react when a terrorist act takes place in a southern town. Unlike in India we don’t have civil riots now. Even in sentimental occasions people keep cool and calm. So now the matter is LTTE terrorism. The matters they claim do not exist now but they can’t give up terrorism because it seems like their leaders are feeling like humiliated to do so. They are used to war and they feel like they can’t give up. As a matter of fact they live a one big lie.

Sri Lankan government has taken proper action to annihilate terrorism and it seems the plans are working alright up to now. By looking at the social status of current Sri Lanka it seems we don’t need a big change to absorb minority groups because we are already living in harmony. It is the northern cities that have done ethnic cleansing chasing away all the Muslims and Sinhalese. Every day is not Christmas. We did not have Christmas for a long time. So it is time to celebrate Christmas. This is the best time to wipe out LTTE terrorism as most of the other facts are fulfilled. Majority of us need to be a bit more aware about the true facts so that it would help us face the things to happen with more strength and less fear.

Dirty as in Dirty Roads

As a small kid and as a grownup I have wondered several times what made different nations practice different daily routines. I mean not the rituals and religious practices but the basic activities in daily life. Different religions, clothing styles, education, politics and things like customs may have developed due to natural reasons like climate, nature and the specialized circumstances occurring in that particular area. No matter how different the inside is basic is almost the same. If religion it is a belief. If food it is for the hunger. If politics it is for controlling and being controlled. Likewise all these have a basic foundation.

But some things in a nation are exceptional. Say for instance Japan. I have never found any cheap quality product made by Japan. I have come across hundreds of broken Japanese equipment but I never met a single person who claims Japanese items are bad. I believe India and China have good stuff. Otherwise they cannot emerge as world powers. Anyhow due to some reason the image is not that good because people have found their recommendations inaccurate and unreliable. If Japanese say you have to throw this car away in 10 years time, he means that. If an Indian says the same thing it may mean you may have to throw it away tomorrow itself or more often he may never say things like that! That is the identity of different nations.

We, Sri Lankans on the other hand have so many unique identities. A very significant one is throwing junk on public places to keep private property clean. This has no difference in remote areas or urban areas. The situation is the same. The problem arose in no time as the town councils asked to keep garbage bags in front of the homes to be collected by their service agents. People took advantage of this and started dumping rotten food stuff in front of homes. Gradually dwellers got used to this and started to keep garbage bags only on the days that garbage truck is coming for collection. Since the truck does not go in the small by lanes people started to put the bags at entrance of the roads which gradually ended up in forming a rotten junk mountain. Stray dogs and cats mess up the places more and more. People who dwell near the collecting points are facing a real trouble because the rotten bad smell is always disturbing the daily life. Places are really made dirty and it is hard to pass the way through. It makes disturbing scenery with all the garbage, worms and everything. Personally I know a handful of occasions where home owners have involved in quarrels regarding dump. So most of all it is even creating social issues apart from health problems. Stray dogs, stray cats, mosquitoes and flies are multiplying adding up uncalculated waste expenditure such as funding for pest controlling, medicine for rabies, malaria and dengue. Apart from these a considerable amount of money is spent on educating people to take precautions on these. So it must be quite a lot of labor, time and money spent on these.

I have wondered why people behave like this. I mean not everybody. I don’t know much depth in other religions but in Buddhism this is violation of some basic teachings. Buddhism always asks to treat the others well and behave yourself in a manner that will never make others uncomfortable in any means. Further it says keeping public places clean is a merit which would result in good gains in this lifetime or in another lifetime (It originally says “Malu peth emadeema pinaki”). So this is a good measurement to find out how many people have understood Buddhism properly because it is not about preaching. Buddha has said “Sunaatha – Dhaaretha – Charaatha Dhamme” which means “Listen, Memorize and Practice the Principles”. So even though the country says majority is Buddhists ultimately they are pretending to be so. This small thing is a very good example. People very hardly make their own places dirty. Instead they always try to throw away their garbage to another’s place. I see this act as a social irresponsibility as well as an act of jealousy to make others uncomfortable (unfortunately this is the nature of some of our people).
So where lays the solution? Enforcing legal body? I don’t think so. Because the legal body of Sri Lanka has more than enough work to do. The town council, the police and the courts have more critical matters to address. But if we wait until all these are solved to address this garbage matter we won’t see that day in this life time. But we can do one small thing. We can start it from schools. We first have to convince the upper level. Administration of the education sector should be first convinced. Once they are thorough believers we can educate the principals and teachers. We have to start from year one and continue teaching them the better values irrespective of where the students come from or where the values come from. Year by year we have to renew students’ attitude on these. Read the biographies of well reputed people and find the influence of their teachers and schools. Unlike homes, schools are central locations that can be reached. Unlike parents teachers are in a certain level of development.

I’m suggesting this is feasible not because this is imaginable but because of I have seen a similar incident. Once we had a vice principal who had an agricultural degree. He thoroughly believed in himself and converted a total boys’ school into a green land. We had all sorts of vegetable ranging from cabbage to brinjols. We made compost out of waste materials collected in class rooms. The school even had small cattle. We created yoghurt as well. There was a bio gas section that functioned with garbage. The entire pest controlling was done with natural stuff. That vice principal got promoted and went to another school in Colombo (Isipathana College) where he did the same. Then he moved to Royal College where it is the same even now. The name of the maestro is Mr. Upali Gunasekara who poses a very good example on how to influence people and how to manage garbage problem. Our school was a community of 5000 students plus 250 teachers. So this is a practical solution to brainwash the next generation to hold better values. Likewise it may be too late to clear up the polluted minds of adults; in any case the next generation can be prevented from drowning. There are countries that have done that. But we need a handful of better leaders who do not pose for personal gains so that people will have a drive towards better practices. Selfishness should have limits. We all have a feeling for our property. But we don’t feel this is our country. We don’t feel that it is our money that is spent on maintaining public property. Nations who have that feeling properly are eye cooling scenery to watch. Clean and tidy free of junk and corruption.

So let’s do whatever we can to keep our country clean (This includes not throwing away bus tickets everywhere we get down from). I don’t have to be an important person, still being an ordinary person we can contribute to the betterment of our country. This small matter shows a great collapse of a country even though we don’t see it directly. First we have to be a good person, and then have a good family, then a good village, then a good country. It is better to start small. Have a look at world leaders. All the good ones have good family lives. That is why Dr. Mahathir Mohammed the front runner of Malaysia’s development has admitted “Start from home”. So let’s start from home!

There is No Easy Way to Earn Money! (An afterword to Sakvithi’s Swindle)

I’m writing this as for the inspiration I got from two incidents. The first one is the famous and hot hot scandal of the Sakvithi Ranasinghe. That news is from the dark corner. The second is an Indian employee I came across very recently who works for his European company so truly all the day with a great capacity of what he does.

I may be young but according to my experience nothing can be free. Everything comes to this world has a cost. In the sense it may not be a monetary value all the time. In Sri Lanka education and health is provided free of charge up to a great extent. But how come something is free? Even though we do not see it directly people of this country pay all the taxes and levies to keep these services provided free of charge. So ultimately somebody is paying for all these.

If I remember correctly (can’t remember where I read it) the great writer Maxim Gorky has once said “if you get something free it should either be mother’s love or the sun’s light. Nothing else is entirely free”

The famous English teacher Sakvithi Ransinghe’s money swindling is the latest hot topic in Sri Lanka except for war and revolutions in daily dirty politics. That person climbed up the ladder really fast. He became some sort of an icon in no time. I observed him advertizing his construction and property development company in most of the week end news papers. It was an eye catching advertisement that at least took half a page. The advertisement says 6, 000 rupees monthly interest for each 100, 000 rupees of investment. That is 72% interest per year! To build the confidence he put photos of his and Edwin Ariyadasa, who is renowned elderly media personnel in the country. I’m sure Mr. Ariyadasa must have also been swindled by this professional robber. That was not all. There appeared another advertisement introducing a CD pack with a walkman that is said to be a new method of learning English. Students can listen to them whenever they can and learn the language at any time they like. This also was a product of Mr. Sakvithi. There was more. This person appeared in the national television of Sri Lanka and in a few other channels as well to conduct English lessons. I have never seen that privilege given to any other private tutor. So Mr. Sakvithi built up a very nice public interface to deal with the general public of this country. He always made sure that he appears and behaves like a real gentleman. That is the feeling I got. I believe if somebody is too smooth there is always a problem with him or her. That is my experience. So for me this guy fell into that category.

If you have a look at the week end news papers the highest number of the advertisements are regarding foreign traveling or migration or foreign higher studies. The second highest is for spoken English classes. The third highest is by enchanters, witches, deities promising to make what’s impossible, achievable with their super powers. These have become a mania in the news papers. By looking at the number of advertisements and the amount they may be spending on advertising we can assume there is a large client base for these. Otherwise how can they at least cover up their advertising costs? This trend has come up like popping up mushrooms. Mr. Sakvithi is not the only English tutor who does this. There is one call Selaka Rajasinghe who promises to teach English just in 8 days. He has a money back guarantee as well! There is another one call Rathna Liyanage who has some sort of parallel investment company just like Mr. Sakvithi. But since of late he seems to be a bit quiet. These people even have branches in a number of towns as well. They put well reputed local personnel as their coordinators. Most often they are elderly government servants like retired principals, retired post masters etc. I believe these people are getting a commission for their work. This improves the confidence over the so called investment companies.

I think even though the literacy is very high in Sri Lanka majority of the people in this country are not intelligent enough to face the complexities of the modern world. They get caught easily. Same thing happens with politics. Politicians just need to put the face on TV. It doesn’t matter whether it is regarding something good or bad. They just need to show their faces to the public so that they will go into the minds of the public and will get more votes next time. This is the truth about Sri Lanka. It is not difficult to track down the true nature of people like Mr. Sakvithi. These types of English tutors say they have classes in Nugegoda in the morning, in the noon they are in Kalutara, in the evening they are in Galle. The morning next day they are in Gampaha, in the noon they are in Kurunegala and in the evening they are Kandy. All seven days they travel and teach like this. I wonder how somebody can be so efficient and travel all the places and teach? In our culture teaching is an art that cannot be done in this way running here and there all the time. While doing all these if the tutors say they do something else as well, I don’t understand how they find time. It is obvious that they will fail in everything because they are trying to do so many at the same time. Most often I have heard that these classes are finished in two or three weeks even though they are said to be 3 months or 6 months courses. They take the total payment in the first 2 days and then vanish. This is just getting the advantage over the poor young people who are in need of spoken English due to the colonial imagination that still exists in the minds of the Sri Lankan administration and job market. So because of the majority don’t look at the outer world with broadened and analytical eyes and minds they get caught to swindlers like Mr. Sakvithi. When these cheaters say they are giving big interest for investments our people don’t think of it. They don’t care whether it is possible or not. Even the American banks who have better ways of investmenting got bankrupted and still getting bankrupted. Our public doesn’t know these important facts because the majority is interested in just watching mega teledrama series and superstars. There are so many stars. Super stars, kid stars, dancing stars, adventurous stars etc. The channels are so much interested in delivering these needs. If not these they just broadcast something helpful to improve their political allies. That is the entire world the public see in this country. These Sakvithi incidents may be byproducts of this narrowing of minds in this country. Valued programs could have minimized the Sakvithi blow because the broadened thinking would empower people to improve their intelligence to recognize possible hardships prior to their arousal. Further people who have a good reputation have been caught by these types of swindlers in a few occasions now. Once professor Sucharitha Gamlath got caught to “Pongu Thamil”. Now Edwin Ariyadasa got caught to this fellow. Probably it may happen due to hardships in their elderly age. So we are in an era where we can trust others up to some extent that we feel is safe.

Sakvithi incident is said to be the one with the most number of entries in the police book. At one place I saw there comes nearly 500 complaints a day. Mirihana police station has put a separate section to handle them. Police premise is crowded like a public market place. The police have introduced a new form to take the complaints. The best part is this Sakvithi’s real name has never been Sakvithi Ranasinghe. He has used a passport with the name “Abeyratne Mudiyanselage Chandana Weerakumara Ranasinghe” to vanish to south India. It is like a fairy tale how this fellow swindled nearly 900 millions. I consider this incident a byproduct of not broadening up the minds of our people. We just try to live in a dream world.

My second inspiration, the Indian co-worker who works really hard all the day along, is a thing to talk. Sometimes it is scary to look at the way he works. I have heard that Indians and Chinese are really hard workers but I never thought they are working this hard. The person I’m talking is really talented. He knows what he do and he makes sure he works all the time. It is not that we don’t work. But his dedication is a thing to practice. There may be facts which influence him to be so. May be he is rewarded, maybe he just do it for satisfaction.

There is only a single simple conclusion I made by looking at him. If there had been any easier way to earn money why does that person work so hard so willingly? That is the same reason why I work this hard with giving all my best effort, simply because there is no easy way to earn money!

What a Trip – What a Feeling!

Last Saturday (05.07.2008) I and my fiancée went on a two day trip to Earls Regency Kandy with her office mates. The entire trip was so cool and it made me feel one of the best trips I ever went on after leaving under grad ages at uni.

Even though I’m no part of IFS (where my fiancée works), people made me feel really comfortable. From start to its end every thing was well organized. It looked like there were around 200 guys and girls. Except for a few delays (which is normal when such a crowd is around) everything went on smoothly.

I had my internship at IFS and there is one thing I admire most about IFS. It’s the culture they maintain. It is not too much - not too less. It’s the culture of the common man. They make sure the majority feels ok. I feel IFS reaps good harvest when you look at events like these in the long term aspect. It makes people enjoy, release stress, making strong bonds among team mates, exploring places and things that are new, understanding each other better and life time memories for all. My conclusion is, an office should do these in the name of what ever because employees get the job satisfaction which would ultimately result in making a good company in all aspects. Salary is not everything. So, all at company’s cost will gain each and every employee and the company itself a better future. That’s why I adore IFS and its attitude towards the guys and girls who work for them. Sometimes a hundred workshops won’t help the employees in the way this 2 day practical example work.

Singing nonstop all the way from Colombo to Kandy and back from Kandy to Colombo was really cool. I feel like my throat has left me. I’m mute today.No voice at all!

The ‘Mystery Hour’, ‘Padura’, DJ, hitting the ‘Kanaa Mutti’, egg catching, mummy making and water polo events kept the guys and the girls enjoy every minute of the trip.

Earls Regency was ok for most of the parts. Lodging was cool but I prefer the down south meals over what we enjoyed at Earls’. The hotel doesn’t have a huge garden may be due to the fact that it is situated close to the town. But it has enough facilities to keep you entertaining all the time.

After a long time I felt really nice about something I involved in (the trip). I’m feeling boomed up. Just thought of posting this on the blog to keep on reflecting on wonderful memories the trip. I don’t normally post stuff like these on the blog. But I feel this deserves it.

A Leader Should Know How to Manage Failure

These are some really interesting thoughts expressed by former President of India APJ Abdul Kalam.

Could you give an example, from your own experience, of how leaders should manage failure?

Kalam: Let me tell you about my experience. In 1973 I became the project director of India 's satellite launch vehicle program, commonly called the SLV-3. Our goal was to put India 's "Rohini" satellite into orbit by 1980. I was given funds and human resources -- but was told clearly that by 1980 we had to launch the satellite into space. Thousands of people worked together in scientific and technical teams towards that goal.

By 1979 -- I think the month was August -- we thought we were ready. As the project director, I went to the control center for the launch. At four minutes before the satellite launch, the computer began to go through the checklist of items that needed to be checked. One minute later, the computer program put the launch on hold; the display showed that some control components were not in order. My experts -- I had four or five of them with me -- told me not to worry; they had done their calculations and there was enough reserve fuel. So I bypassed the computer, switched to manual mode, and launched the rocket. In the first stage, everything worked fine. In the second stage, a problem developed. Instead of the satellite going into orbit, the whole rocket system plunged into the Bay of Bengal . It was a big failure.

That day, the chairman of the Indian Space Research Organization, Prof. Satish Dhawan, had called a press conference. The launch was at 7:00 am, and the press conference -- where journalists from around the world were present -- was at 7:45 am at ISRO's satellite launch range in Sriharikota [in Andhra Pradesh in southern India ]. Prof. Dhawan, the leader of the organization, conducted the press conference himself. He took responsibility for the failure -- he said that the team had worked very hard, but that it needed more technological support. He assured the media that in another year, the team would definitely succeed. Now, I was the project director, and it was my failure, but instead, he took responsibility for the failure as chairman of the organization.

The next year, in July 1980, we tried again to launch the satellite -- and this time we succeeded. The whole nation was jubilant. Again, there was a press conference. Prof. Dhawan called me aside and told me, "You conduct the press conference today."

I learned a very important lesson that day. When failure occurred, the leader of the organization owned that failure. When success came, he gave it to his team. The best management lesson I have learned did not come to me from reading a book; it came from that experience.

What Else?

I’m writing this with great regrets and depression as 8 of our guys wasted their young lives to fulfill somebody’s most unlikely dream to come true.

It is really hurting me to see some of the familiar faces among the death notice poster of the guys who caught the Fort Railway bomb on 3^rd February 2008.

As a school DS has had taken great strides towards inter community and inter racial harmony from its beginning. We had a time when we used to learn “Aana, Aawanna”(Hope I remember it correctly). We had Tamil head prefects in our history. We have a Hindu Kovil, a Muslim Mosque, a small Catholic Church, and a Budu Medura at school premises. We, the majority Buddhists used to come out of the classes and practice our religious believes every morning while others engaged in their respective religious customs at their places inside the school. I have seen a thousand times how Hindus wash their Kovil with milk and pray their stanzas with all the bells, drums and traditional oil lamps in the background. I have seen how Muslims kneel and worship their god. I have seen how Christians and Catholics pray with nice harmonizing voices. As a Sinhalese Buddhist I watched them with respect. I believe most of us did so and still do so.

We had English news, Sinhala news and Tamil news broadcasted in the school daily. We had equal rights. Besides being minority, the school’s Football and Hokey teams were dominated by Tamils and Muslims. Most of the other teams had Tamil and Muslim representation. We had all three Sinhala, English and Tamil debating teams. Each grade had two Tamil medium classes. That’s around 80+ students. Out of 400 in each section we had around 150-200 minority students who never made any complaint being minority. We had all sorts of religious and cultural festivals at school. Even we had Tamils and Muslims as our OBA presidents. As students and as old boys we enjoy equal opportunities. Most of the 6000+ students of our school are brought up with this type of mindset. So I believe where ever in this world we go, we carry what we think is good and we try to practice them at our best.

So looking at the culture where I grew up I don’t see anybody being made uncomfortable due to his nativity. If somebody is trying to be a winner among a whole bunch of losers I guess we should first make him a loser. As a school DS has taken these steps long before Mr. Pirapaharan dreamt of his so called EALAM. We have practically proved that his idealism is false and fake. Making predictions of the Sri Lankan community by staying under the ground in Kilinochchi seems to be misleading Mr. Pirapaharan because what he says does not exist here anymore. Visit Wellawatte, Dematagoda, Kotahena, Dehiwala, Cinamon Gardens, Sea Street, Slave Island, Hatton, Aagarapathana or anywhere. See the number of Tamils living there. They are being searched occassionally because these bombers explore themselves. Otherwise these people could stay in these areas without any problem at all. So for these occasional arrests also Mr. Pirapaharan is the one to blame. Ask him to stop the explosions so that we can stop searching. Visit Kilinochchy, Naagarkovil, or Muhumale. I don’t think we can find any Sinhalese. So it’s time to understand who’s right and who’s wrong. At least we can understand whose better. Where is ethnic cleansing? In Colombo or Kilinochchi? If South India gives us a separate land for us we could probably give Mr. Pirapaharan what he asks.

“Gahanna Gahanna wandina ekath modaya – Wandinna wandinna gahana ekath modaya”

I think it’s time to stop this bull head no matter what ever the price is so that the generations to come will live in peace and harmony.

Helping a Rural School in Ratnapura

Somewhere around May 2007, 10 of us talked in the lunch table about the money we are spending for daily dessert. One of us suggested that can’t we collect that money and provide studying material to poor students in a rural school. The idea was greatly supported by most of the fellows.

Our target was to collect around 50, 000 rupees which we finally did. Duminda found a school in Ratnapura that needed help. Even though they were somewhat ok with a few facilities. After a small discussion Duminda and Asanga(two from our lunch bunch) told us the principal told them that quite a big number of students don’t have shoes. So if we could provide them shoes the principal said it would leave life long memories with the students.

So we agreed to buy shoes as many as we could with our budget. We got a list of 172 needed shoe pairs. But the most we could buy was 61 pairs. So in the end we bought 61 shoe pairs and socks pairs. With the spare money we bought mathematical instrument sets for 25 students and books for year 5 scholarship, O/L past papers, and IT books written in Sinhala etc. We got a request from the principal to hold them a workshop on computers as their knowledge on the subject is not so good. But due to the busy schedules of our friends we could not travel the place on a week day. So to prevent delaying the help we decided to deliver the stuff on 19^th Saturday of January 2008.

We are planning to visit Ellawala Maha Vidyalaya on a convenient day to hold the work shop.

Six of the guys from our bunch visited the school to hand over the donation. Sudantha along with his father provided us transport all the way from Colombo to Ratnapura and back to Colombo as well. Duminda and Asanga arrenged the

shoes and socks. Me and Swarnamali bought the learning materials. All of us collected money for 6 months and spent them on this. On the day we handed the stuff, guys who went there(I could not go as I had to stay at home for an important visit of my fiance) told me they felt really sorry for the students. Duminda told two of the fellows fainted in the 15 minute long small gahtering. This place was 3 hours distance from Colombo. If the situation is like this in such a distance we could imagine how it is in a place like Ampara or Monaragala.

That school still needs a lot of help. If anybody is willing please contact us so that we can direct you to the place.

I'm from Kilinochchi, I Know the Pain

Thamilselvan should have been tried for multiple murders and hung at the Galle Face Green - Ananda Sangaree

Tamil United Liberation Front (TULF) president V. Anandasangaree says he can't understand why the culprits couldn't be brought to book. In Jaffna, three or four people were getting killed in broad daylight every day. If a person comes on a motorbike, shoots another and vanishes, he can't vanish into thin air. He has to travel a distance to hide. So what happens in-between, he asks. However, he says he can't blame the police in Jaffna as they are not allowed to do their duty and adds that an Inspector much loved by the people was hacked to death by the LTTE when he went to hold an inquiry. He was asked to come unarmed and without security and was hacked to death, says Anandasangaree. But, what is happening in the South, he queries.

The following are excerpts from V. anandasangaree's interview with THE COLOMBO POST.

Q: Are you happy with the prevailing situation in the country?

A: Not at all. First of all, I'm greatly disappointment with the government on one matter, the ethnic issue. I have been repeatedly saying over a period of time that if this country is not going to find a solution for the problem within three months of the President coming to power, then we will never find a solution.

Soon after the President was elected, I told him to solve the problem within three or six months the latest. It is two years since he came to power. The more you delay, more problems will crop up, like the de-merger and issues like the JVP demanding the abrogation of the Ceasefire Agreement (CFA). All these problems are new ones because of the delay in finding a solution. This is not the first time a government has made such mistakes.

When Chandrika Bandaranaike came to power, she was the only one who got the largest majority in the history of Sri Lankan Presidential election. She got over 65% of the votes. She came to power with the promise of solving the problem. She delayed it or was made to delay. It ultimately went for six years and then another six years and that was the end of it. The same thing happened when J.R. Jayewardene was President. He was mandated by the people to solve the problem any way he wanted, but he didn't do it. It has been repeated over and over, as far as the ethnic issue is concerned. For the last fifty years this has been the situation.

Q: How do you see the escalation of hostilities?

A: That is very sickening. I can't understand why the culprits can't be brought to book. In Jaffna, three or four people are getting killed in broad day light every day. Lots of people would have seen him. However, in Jaffna I can't blame the police for one reason because they are not allowed to do their duty.

Once an Inspector very much loved by the people was hacked to death by the LTTE when he went to hold an inquiry. He was asked to come unarmed and without security and was hacked to death. I will not blame a single policeman in Jaffna. In the North and East I can understand the situation. But what is happening in the South? In the South it is even possible for the people to get together and arrest the offenders. I don't know what is wrong.

Q: Have you lost faith in the political leadership and the opposition in Sri Lanka?

A: I can't say that because political leadership is up to the respective leaders. I only find fault for the delay in finding a solution.

Q: Do you think the Southern parties will come to a consensus to resolve the ethnic conflict?

A: This is a challenge. Forget about the Southern parties opposed to a solution. The people want a solution. I have told the President to go ahead with a reasonable solution and the people would be with him. He is the President elected for the entire country. It is wrong to say that it is the Southern people who elected the President. There is nothing called a government in the North and another in the South.

That is what we want to prevent. He is the President of the whole country and therefore has a duty to satisfy everybody. There is a wrong interpretation of democracy. Democracy is not the rule of the majority. It is the rule of the majority with the consent of the minority.

Q: Do you think the present government is genuinely committed to a political solution?

A: Yes. I think the President is very serious about it. I have discussed it several times with him. The President is very much interested in finding a solution. The main opposition United National Party is also committed to finding a solution. During the last election they faired well in the Tamil areas.

Q: Is there a collective leadership for the Tamil community?

A: I think there is. Forget about the Tamil National Alliance (TNA). Take the 22 TNA members as one member saying yes to everything the LTTE says. Forget about the number, whether it is 22, 23, 30 or even 100. They are yes men of the LTTE. They don't have guts to tell the LTTE what is wrong and what is right. For example, TNA members go around complaining of Human Rights violations. I'm telling the TNA there are more Human Rights violations in the LTTE held area than outside. They, including the LTTE leadership and Thamilselvan have sent their children to foreign countries for higher education. What about other children?

I'm from Kilinochchi and I know the pain of the people. People weep over the telephone. Children have been forcibly taken by the LTTE. Girls from the upper class have been given compulsory training. At one stage, every family must give one member to the LTTE, but now every member has to go.

When you say collective leadership, take the TNA as one. The others like the TULF, PLOTE, EPRLF and the EPDP are committed to a solution. So there is a collective leadership. If there is violation by government forces or by the LTTE, we condemn them. The TNA doesn't do that.

Q: How progressive is your alliance with the People's Liberation Organization of Tamil Eelam (PLOTE) and Eelam People's Liberation Front (EPRLF- Padmanabha wing)?

A: We are committed to finding a solution. We have agreed to continue to fight to get a federal solution for the ethnic problem. I have seen highly educated people writing rubbish. We shouldn't forget the fact that this is a country belonging to the Tamils, the Sinhalese, the Muslims and everybody. Who came first and who came last is not the point. As educated people we shouldn't condemn others. This is a country where the Tamils, Sinhalese and Muslims have lived for generations. Sixty million Tamils are living across the Palk Strait. How radical is it to say that somebody came first?

Who came when is utterly irrelevant to the Sri Lankan problem, even if the Sinhalese claim their mothers had been Tamils. According to the Mahawamsa the two hundred followers of Vijeya, who came and formed the Sinhala community, as some radical Sinhalese claim, their mothers have been Tamils from Madurai. Let us take for granted that we all have equal rights in this country. Forget about the past. As the Buddhists are the majority, we consider that Buddhism can be the state religion. We are not talking about it. But other rights like the right to live, the right to move about, the right to do whatever democratically, we all must be entitled to do.

Q: What is the most acceptable solution in resolving the conflict?

A: We know what the problem is. It is fifty years old. The whole world knows what the problem is. The All Party Representative Committee (APRC) is sitting and they are the block. How can the APRC come to a consensus when people have radical views? So we know what the problem is. As committed at the Oslo declaration, which the LTTE too has agreed on, they must come out with a federal solution. That is what the international community also expects.

The whole world is expecting the country to come out with a federal solution. Use an alternative because some are allergic to the term 'federal' and unitary. So avoid those words. Just call it the Indian model or unity in diversity. The Indians are proud as they are united in diversity. Let us also have a constitution that will be accepted by the minority as well. As far as rights are concerned, there should be minority rights and majority rights. Rights should be equal to everybody and should be enjoyed without discrimination.

Whatever solution we find, it should be once and for all. There cannot be a solution in installments. We have taken fifty years to and are yet to solve the problem. If we are to settle it in installments it will take another fifty years to get the second installment and another fifty to get the other. By that time there would be some radicals in power. So whatever the solution, it should be the final one acceptable and reasonable to the Tamil community. As accepted by the international community, a federal solution or the Indian model.

Q: Can the LTTE be destroyed only by finding a political solution?

A: Every problem has a solution but concerned parties may not accept it as a solution. We are suggesting a federal solution, but the LTTE may not accept it. They won't accept it for two reasons. One is, if a solution is found the Indians will just come and take Prabhakaran away. He will have to face hundred years of imprisonment. Even if a separate state is given, Prabhakaran will find some excuse to get away from it. So, forget about Prabhakaran.

Satisfy the Tamils who are agreeable to a solution and for living in a united Sri Lanka, and that is the final solution. Once the Tamil speaking people are satisfied that the government will treat every body equally and give equal rights, then the problem will be solved. We don't need to bother about the LTTE after that.

Even the small support they have will vanish. Even people like Nedumaran and Vaiko in South India will keep their mouths shut, even though now, because of certain interests, they are shouting.

For example, Thamilselvan who should have been tried for multiple murders and hung at the Galle Face Green is now being hailed as a hero by some Tamil Nadu politicians as they don't know what is happening here. Prabhakaran and Thamilselvan should have been tried for sending the 21 suicide bombers alone, but they are being glorified. If a reasonable solution is found then the LTTE can't exist.

Q: How would the budget help the Tamils in the North and East?

A: I don't see the budget from a Tamil point of view or Sinhala pint of view. Our country is rich in natural resources. No one will die of starvation. We must consider one thing. I don't justify the government allocating such a large amount of money for defence. But then how can you blame the government when a rebel organization starts destroying the airport and giving an impression to the world that they have a strong army?

The government is concerned about the security of the country and has to take that decision. If we are to find fault with the government for allocating such a large amount for defence, we must condemn the LTTE before doing that. In one night they caused losses of billions of rupees. So, without finding fault with the budget let us all get together and find a solution. The moment a solution is found; all what is spent on defence can be allocated for development. This is a war situation. We are not fighting against an ordinary rebel group. We are fighting against a group which has air power also.

Q: What else do you do apart of issuing statements and writing letters?

A: My letters have generally not been challenged by anybody. My writing had brought a big impact on the citizens of Sri Lanka. Unfortunately, I have a threat on my life. Otherwise I will prefer to take my message to every corner of the country.

Q: The media in Sri Lankan is under fire. Doesn't that mean democracy is under threat?

A: I strongly condemn those who meddle with the media. You have a right to write. But you see, we speak only about the English media, no one talks about the Tamil papers. Tamil papers enjoy more freedom than any other papers in the country. They have the liberty to write anything. They write all rubbish, they enjoy press freedom but no one speaks about that. As far as Sri Lanka is concerned, press freedom is limited only to others. The Tamil media can write anything, they glorify the LTTE and give them full publicity.

No one should meddle with the media and the press also should see that they don't come out with unwanted things. People who are killing and threatening journalists also should think that this can happen to them also when things change. There is a proverb in Tamil that says just by hiding the comb you can't prevent a marriage. The bride can even come without dressing her hair. Threats will not prevent journalists from writing or editors from publishing.

Q: When you say the Tamil media has freedom, how do you see the Tamil journalists being killed and threatened?

A: I didn't look from that angle. But with my experience, I see that the Tamil journalists have the utmost freedom, and I will hold some of the newspapers responsible for this large number of killings. But they don't condemn. There isn't a Tamil paper that has condemned the killings by the LTTE. That's how I look at it. But I don't know why and who are punishing them. Whenever the LTTE makes a mistake the Tamil papers have to collectively condemn.

Q: A top international terrorism expert says the government should protect the democratic Tamil leaders much more than the Sinhala politicians. Are the democratic Tamil leaders happy with the protection given to them?

A: All members of parliament are having their own security. In my case I'm given more protection because the risk is different from the others. Take the TNA. Aren't they aware that all these are happening because of the LTTE? There are many people in their prisons. They are failing in their duty and I'm doing my duty. I'm not pro-government or anti-government. I'm doing my duty as a patriotic citizen of this country.

Q: When did you last visit the North?

A: I didn't visit the north for a long time. This is the type of democracy we have in this country. If I go to the north what is the guarantee that I will return safely?

Q: As a democratic Tamil leader, what is your message to the people of the country?

A: I'm fully confident that the people in this country want to live in peace. I'm happy that that the Sinhalese in the south are not harassing the minorities. The Tamils in the north and east are a new type of minority for them. The Muslims have been there for a long time and the Tamils are just moving and live across Colombo to Puttalam.

Jaffna Tamils live along Colombo to Moratuwa. So the Tamils are confident that the ordinary Sinhalese are prepared to live as equals. People shouldn't be disturbed by ideas like who came first and who came last, who enjoys more rights and who enjoys fewer rights. Let us all live as equals so the country can prosper and even beat a country like Singapore.

Where Exists the Problem - Race, Caste, Religion or Money?

In most of the parts of the modern world there is something wrong. In some place religious extremists are making trouble, some places racial matters, some places people are tread on due to cast differences. Being a developed country doesn’t give a proper answer to these problems. Black Americans have problems; Russia has a problem in Chechnya, UK has a problem in Ireland. So being developed is not an answer but it under controls the matters up to a greater extend.

When we talk of an animal we know there are specific behavioral activities of that particular animal group. Let’s say a buffalo. They normally eat something all the time. Let’s say an elephant. They normally don’t stay in the same pose for long. They sway or walk around or do something all the time. Likewise when it comes to human I think we all have some common behavior. A behavior of criticizing and getting divided. Dividing in the sense; objecting or accepting a particular idea.

Most of the time people find something to argue uponn. As an animal, human beings like the feeling of being recognized by others. It is not a must. But people like that feeling more or less depending on the personality. Some keep the grip on family while some other gets in to action in community level. Some do local politics. Some dance in the global arena. The stage is provided by different subjects. It may be politics, sports, arts or something else. Even though the basic needs are food, shelter and clothing humans are not satisfied. In the modern era we need money to get what we need. But just money and fulfilling our basic needs is not enough. We search recognition among others. So, we search for it. An easy way of gaining recognition among a community is find something common and make them feel you are a commoner so they recognize you as somebody. In the initial ancient stages these common facts would have been things like the area you stay, the skin color and so on. With time these things have evolved. Even now Sri Lankans say I’m from south, I’m from up country and so on. Skin color is a huge fact even in the modern world. Africans are black, Indians are brown, Chinese are yellow, Europeans are white, and Russians are red!

As a matter of fact our civilization has found reasons on our own definitions like Race, Caste, and Religion to use as facts of fundamental division. In the way I feel all the other divisions are secondary formations which have taken these as basics. It may be political division, community division, global division like Europe, America, Asia etc. What’s nice about all these is there is no atomic level. If you look in to one of the divisions it has so many inner divisions. Let’s say Asia. It is divided further as South Asia, East Asia and so on. If we take South Asia there are countries. Those countries are further divided internally to states or a similar administration unit. These types of divisions have their own benefits. This type of division is really significant to keep our civilization continuously evolving otherwise this world would be a one big mess. But the problem here is not every division is for the better use of human kind.

I hope most of us have experienced enough of Race, Caste, and Religion. So there’s nothing new to talk on them. Even though we have a huge population in this world our civilization goes forward because of a bunch of people who have a mind set which is broader, developed and strong. If all of us were disciples of so called Race, Caste, Religion most of us would have been still lighting fire with two stones in front of a cave somewhere in a thick jungle. But still Race, Caste, and Religion makes the world live in panic. The reason is the general public can be easily convinced to follow somebody. Depending on the vision of the person who is controlling the public the results get differed. The good purposes or future developments done by real thinkers are pretty harder to be carved in to the narrow minds of general public. What the public absorb is what is easier for them to realize and understand.

As I understand there are different levels of leaders. Depending on leadership capabilities and qualities the portion they can administer is decided. The intensions of a leader may differ. They may be good for the whole human kind or they may be good for a selected community or they may be bad for the whole world. But still they are leaders due to the fact that they can convince a huge number to follow them. That’s why Hitler is a leader. Even though he was a real harm he is still a leader as he could hold on to what he believed.

But in the modern times I see a pretty impressive solution to these burdens. That is money. Why I say that is the following reason. Sri Lanka has a problem which runs for more than 20 years now. Most of the people who are suffering are Tamils in the terrorist areas. There is a very large Tamil community in Colombo. Towns like Wellawatte, Dematagoda, Kotahena, Dehiwala are dominated by them. In the school where I studied we had two Tamil medium classes in each section. We have film halls screening Tamil films. Most of the shops in those cities display boards in Tamil. As I have observed they don’t have a big problem in Colombo. If they are bothered by government forces it is due to the barbaric acts of Mr. Pirapaharan. Unless he hides among innocent Tamils and kills people in Colombo the government forces would not need to check innocent Tamils. So if Mr. Pirapaharan stops his barbaric acts Tamils in this country would have a real nice life. Tamils who have money have Come to Colombo and settled. Tamils who had more money have gone abroad and settled. I heard majority of Colombo 7 residents (Colombo 7 is one of the high class residential area in Colombo) are Tamils. I have noticed the majority studying in International Schools or in the Modern Schools as they are called are Tamils and Muslims. So they are dominating in most of the cases passing over the majority Sinhalese. So, left alone poor innocent Tamil and Sinhalese people are taken as bait by the so called leaders of both Tamils and Sinhalese. This is a real world example of power of money. This shows money can solve a great deal of problems.

Since of late I have seen so many inter racial, inter religious and inter caste marriages. Most of the couples were sons and daughters of business tycoons, or political big foots, or celebrities in one field or another. No body questions. Why? I feel it’s money and most of the time that incident makes both of the families stand strong in their common interests. I think that’s what all of us should be concerned about. It should be nothing else other than well being of us and others. We should not put gods and everything else in between us and kill each other.

Why we make trouble is our so called leaders have made us blind and they keep us following them just to make sure their well being. I’m not blaming everybody but the majority. We, the general public don’t see their real intensions. The hardship of understanding the reality we make our lives a mess.

In the modern times money has a great answer. Some people know it. So they keep others in the dark to grab more money leaving very little to majority. That is how the environment is maintained. People who are strong survive. So others are made week by the stronger.

Money is a great universal solution in the modern world. But you can’t make money just by doing what ever. You can’t kill dogs and earn. The reason is it is just the conscience that is left when you leave this world. You can not take anything else when you exhale your last breath. You can get recognition when you are alive. But only the people with a conscience are recognized even after hundreds of years of their departure from this world.

So any matter at any place in this world can get a good solution if the engaged parties are not poor. So does the matters exist in Sri Lanka! I feel that is becoming a universal truth. It's time to open our eyes and see the truth.
